North American 2023 Honda HR-V Is Bigger And Is Civic-Based

After showing it off in sketch form, Honda has just unveiled the first official photos of the North American HR-V.

Bigger than Vezel-based HR-V which countries like the Philippines would be getting, the North American HR-V is larger in every dimension than its predecessor while also carrying a longer wheelbase. It’s also based off the eleventh-generation Civic and for that is confirmed to get a rear independent suspension.

Apart from size, the styling also takes an entirely different direction with the HR-V over there getting a wide-set LED head- and taillights, as well as a longer hood and unique grille. Honda says the low horizontal beltline is also meant to convey a sense of width. Furthermore, the HR-V, like the Civic, uses laser-brazing technology to eliminate the unsightly roof molding. The wipers also hide under the hood line when not in use.

Honda has yet to confirm any engine and transmission details, but given that it’s a close relative of the Civic, expect the same family of engines. The turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder with around 177 to 180 horsepower is definitely a safe bet, but a 2.0-liter normally-aspirated 4-cylinder with 160 horsepower might become the base engine. It might also be joined by the e:HEV full hybrid powerplant given Honda’s confirmation that the North American HR-V will also arrive in Europe as a different model. The e:HEV engine is also available in the European and Japanese markets for the Civic.

Full details and specifications will be revealed in the summer months (June to August) in the U.S.

  1. And the Philippines get a base 1.5 NA engine (used in freaking Honda city) while our neighbors get the e:Hev.

    1. they're playing it way too safe, at least try nila mag sell ng City e:Hev. Since it's clearly their volume seller the greater the chance for them to sell such.

  2. HONDA PH should at least put the 1.5 Turbo engine for all the variants.
