Mitsubishi Motors Shows Off 2023 Xpander Cross

When Mitsubishi Motors unveiled the refreshed Xpander globally in 2021, there was some visible confusion as to why its SUV-derivative, the Xpander Cross didn’t get the same slew of changes. While it did see a minor update, it didn’t get the aggressive new front fascia. Apparently, the Japanese carmaker just bided their time as two years later, they have finally unveiled the 2023 Xpander Cross.

Like the refreshed Xpander, the 2023 Xpander Cross features the newest iteration of the Dynamic Shield face which is now connected to a more aggressive front clip. The bumpers are now chunkier, while the re-shaped fender flares ride over the new 17-inch alloy wheels. All in all, the re-design looks to befit its SUV-like positioning. It also happens to get the same T-shaped head- and taillights lit by LEDs. The front fog lights are now lit by LEDs as well.

In terms of colors, Green Bronze Metallic joins Quartz White Pearl, Jet Black Mica, Blade Silver Metallic, and Graphite Gray Metallic.

Inside, the 2023 Xpander Cross builds on the 2022 update by getting an 8-inch digital gauge cluster and four-spoke steering wheel seemingly borrowed from the Montero Sport. It also gets a wireless device charger and a high-efficiency air filter. The rest of the cabin carries over from the new horizontal dashboard with soft-touch padded material, the black/blue color scheme, and leather seats covered with Heat Guard technology.

As for safety, the Xpander Cross gains Active Yaw Control (AYC) allowing it to selectively apply the inside wheels when cornering to reduce understeer. It also comes a 360-degree camera along with standard ABS with EBD and stability control.

Mechanically, the 2022 Xpander Cross is the same as the revamped Xpander. It uses the tried-and-tested 1.5-liter (4A91) with 105 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque mated to a CVT with a built-in shift logic.

For the suspension, the rigidity of the front strut mounting part is improved, and the cylinder size of the rear shock absorber is expanded, while high-performance valves are newly adopted at both the front and rear to provide a smooth and comfortable ride.

With the 2023 Xpander Cross built in Indonesia, they are the first market to get it first. It is very likely that it will make its way to the Philippines in the coming months. Who know, perhaps it could make a surprise appearance at the Philippine International Motor Show in September?

  1. It looks so front heavy. That bumper design looks like it's going to have a very long front overhang, and that is not ideal for a "ruggedized" vehicle (I'm sure it just looks rugged but still the same flimsy MPV). Atleast they got rid of the hideous chrome side mirrors and door handles.

Also no ADAS again and 2 airbags.. BR-V, Stargazer, Veloz all have some sort of ADAS and more than 2 airbags. PH will likely still get the same 4 speed auto from the dinosaur era instead of the CVT of the Indonesian spec. Coupled with MMPC's ludicrous pricing, this will be dead on arrival.

    1. ADAS ineffective at dark, foggy and rainy days so its totally useless and not really totally safe 🤣
Xpander and Xpander Cross are still selling very well as its a Mitsubishi vehicle

  3. Oh no. They better spec it further. Hope Mitsubishi PH add more safety features and ADAS on this! Look at the competitors Stargazer, Veloz and even the incoming BR-V! Add it at least on the TOTL variant. Also, ditch that dinosaur-era 4-speed AT! I'll forgive them it this is a sub 500k to 750kPhp vehicle but this is 2022. Come one Mitsu.

    1. 4 speed automatic transmission is way more reliable than CVT and DCT 🤣MMPC chose reliability over cheap gimmicks 🤪
ADAS won't automatically sell a vehicle very well as evident with the sales numbers of Almera and others.
Many Filipino car buyers still don't trust ADAS technology.

    2. Filipinos just want a simple and affordable car. Period.

    3. Very ironic of you having an Almera in you picture, genius.

"Many Filipino car buyers still don't trust ADAS technology"

I'm questioning where did you get your statistics lol or you just made this up. As far as I can tell, unless if you're dumb enough to think that ADAS is equal to self-driving, ADAS is there to only assist you not to take over your driving. I drove a Mazda and I can think that those safety features should even be more mainstream.

Unless if you're ancient enough to tell me that your former picture of Mirage G4 is the best car ever driven lol virtue signalling.

"4-speed automatic transmission is way more reliable than CVT or DCT"
It depends on the tech. Some Honda, Toyota (at least the higher models) and Lexus have some of the most reliable CVTs around. I don't know what are you thinking because it's ironic to say that line given that you have an Almera on picture which features an unreliable CVT lol. Are you a dinosaur?

  4. This thing gets AYC which is more useful on an AWD/4WD application yet this doesn't come with 6 airbags let alone ADAS LOL. At a projected price of Php 1.3 mil +, this is a no buy for me. Veloz is easily at the top of the class with its feature set and price. If you want a more premium crossover MPV, the new BR-V is right there with Honda Sensing and 6 airbags for not much more. At this price and positioning, no 6 airbags, no buy.

    1. As if you can buy one eh PURO KA LANG REKLAMO AT DEMAND NA WALA SA LUGAR 🤣🤣🤣
Xpander Cross and Xpander are still very well as car buyers want more comfortable to drive and with better NVH and interior quality MPV which Avanza and Veloz can't offer 🤣🤣🤣

  5. I was hoping for better safety features for a 2022 model car. Sayang, surprisingly one of the best pa naman ride quality ng Xpander for its class but letdown in safety, which is IMHO just as important as comfort

    1. Xpander Cross already got the basic safety features including stability control..Most car buyers in the country don't care about gazillion airbags and ADAS that's why the L300,Traviz,Xpander,Ertiga,Mirage G4 and others are still selling very well.

  6. Kuchi is annoying and logically flawed, but its true that xpander sells well, which is sad.

    1. Kotchi99 kindly check the data and you will find that the percentage of market share of mitsu is shrinking year on year, while toyota capture 50% of market. Mediocare kasi and overpriced ang mirage g4 mo, wala manlang stability/traction control and hillstart assist.
