Kia Looking To Make China A Global Production Hub

Kia is looking to China to expand its global footprint. The Automotive News reports that the Korean carmaker wants to make its Chinese joint-venture with Jiangsu Yueda Group Co. a global production hub for export markets, including the Philippines.

Kia’s sole production facility in China, located in Yancheng, aims to improve its factory utilization. As such, they plan to boost the exports of fully built vehicles from there to 170,000 units this year to more than 80 developing countries. In 2023, Yueda Kia exported 86,062 units.

Aside from the Pegas (aka Soluto), Stonic, and Seltos, Yueda Kia will also start exporting the Sportage compact SUV, K5 mid-sized sedan, and the EV5 compact EV SUV (lead photo) from China. It must be noted that based on a leaked presentation in 2021, the Philippines will source the Sportage HEV from Malaysia.

This news ties in to Kia Philippines’ late 2023 pronouncement that they will be bringing in the EV5 sometime this year. At the time, Toti Zara, the AC Motors Automobile Group President, also confirmed that they plan to bring in two other electrified vehicles and one conventional internal combustion engine model.

The internal combustion engine model has already been revealed as the refreshed Seltos.

    1. Wag ikumpara ang prices ng vehicles sa China at Philippines dahil hindi naman zero tarrif ang Chinese vehicles na binebenta sa Pilipinas..

    2. Actually compared to Indonesia's Seltos, the Seltos here is cheaper sa base and mid range model. Idk lang specs wise...

    3. Compare the priced of territory, tharu, seltos. Seltos and tharu are clearly OVERPRICED.

    4. Seltos and Tharu are SUVs meant for global markets..Ford Territory/Equator Sport is only meant for emerging markets and cannot be sold in Australia,European countries and America

    5. But here seltos and tharu were dead on arrival bcoz of AC motors OVERPRICING. Seltos sucks with just 2 airbags. While territory selling a thousand monthly, tharu and seltos selling well maybe a measly 5 units a month. Seltos and tharu made in china were not exporting to australia, europe and USA. Seltos and tharu sold in developed countries are not made in china. Seltos and tharu here here are low quality made in china with euro priced. AC Motors should priced it on level of chinese cars here to sell more than 5 units a month. Re: Same made in china, same specs/features - GAC emzom R at 1.1M vs seltos sx 1.7M vs tharu 1.9M
