Tesla Philippines just received regulatory approval to sell its first three-row, six-seater SUV: the Model Y L.
Classified as a Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) in filings made with the Department of Energy, the Model Y L is confirmed to tape in at 4,969 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,668 mm in height. That makes it 179 mm longer and 44 mm taller than the regular two-row Model Y. And while its wheelbase isn’t stated, globally, the wheelbase is up to 2,890 mm.
The added length and wheelbase enable Tesla to shoehorn an additional row of seats. Together with a re-configured second-row that switches it from a bench to individual buckets, the seating goes up from five to six adults.
The Model Y L could come with some unique features such as ventilation in the first two rows and even powered armrests that rise out of the seat base. Meanwhile, those in the third-row will enjoy their very own air vents and to make ingress and egress easier, the second-row seats swing forward electronically.
For those keen on using the Model Y L for its cargo space, you’d be happy with the 2,539 liters of space (maximum)—that’s up from 2,041 liters in the regular Model Y.
The rest of the features will mirror the updated Model Y which gets a larger (16-inch) center touchscreen and a black headliner.
Confirmed specs for the Philippine market include its power output: 514 horsepower (378 kW) which points to a dual-motor, all-wheel drive layout. It also receives an 88.2-kWh lithium-ion battery per the government filing.
Despite the added weight, the Model Y L is only marginally slower than the dual motor, long range Model Y. 0 to 100 km/h is done in 4.5 seconds (up 0.2 seconds), while top speed remains the same at 201 km/h. Interestingly, range has gone up slightly (1 kilometer) thanks to the Model Y L’s aero.
Other changes include unique spring and damper tuning to go with frequency-selective dampers.

ReplyDeleteThat humpback rear reminds me slightly of the 4th-Gen. CRV (whose rear end was heavily panned by critics). This looks too unwieldy for a coupe design. IMO, it would look way better with a boxier rear.
