Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG Reigns Supreme in Formula Masters Macau Thriller

Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG capped off the 2013 Formula Masters season with a commanding victory in the series’ finale at the legendary Guia Circuit over the weekend. In the highly prestigious event, the Asian junior Formula series’ Macau Challenge was held in support of the 60th running of the celebrated Macau Grand Prix.

The international motorsport group’s dominant outing in Macau’s treacherous street circuit was highlighted by each of the Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG drivers’ outstanding performances.

At 16 years old, Malaysian racing wonder Akash Nandy emerged as one of the youngest drivers to win in a Macau Grand Prix event. Nandy’s maiden outing at the Guia Circuit has resulted in an elusive hat trick after grabbing pole position, setting the fastest lap and winning in Formula Masters prestigious season-ender.

British driver Dan Wells also demonstrated an impressive feat of consistency and secured the second spot on both Formula Masters starting grid and podium. Meanwhile, Shanghai-based Swiss driver Thomas Luedi made continuous progress and steadily climbed up the leaderboard from qualifying to race day.

Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG was off to a strong start after delivering positive results during the free practice session on Saturday. The team went on to qualifying with Wells and Nandy dominating the field. However, Formula Masters intense qualifying run was halted by multiple red flag periods. In the end, Nandy qualified on pole position while Wells secured second place on Macau’s starting grid. Luedi also conquered the perilous circuit and finished the session in fifteenth position.

On race day, the team pursued their goal to triumph on Macau’s streets in wet conditions. Polesitter Akash Nandy persevered to defend his position and scored a peerless lights-to-flag victory. Meanwhile, Wells finished the race in second place with an overwhelming 32-second lead from third place Shaun Thong. Swiss driver Thomas Luedi made a step forward in one of the most challenging motorsport venues in the world and concluded his second Formula Masters outing in fourteenth place.

Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG’s success in one of the world’s classic circuits is its way of capping off its successful 2013 season in the junior Asian Formula series.

Thomas Luedi, Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG Driver: “Racing on the Guia circuit in a Formula car was just awesome. I struggled a lot in the practice session searching for grip and speed, but managed to improve a lot in qualifying, which was unfortunately interrupted several times by red flags due to other cars crashing. The rain during the Sunday race didn't help me to leap further forward, and not knowing how hard I could push, but I focused on finishing the race. It was a great weekend and a wonderful experience.”

Akash Nandy, Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG Driver: “First of all, I want to thank my sponsor Rembawang Group and my team, Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG for giving me this opportunity to race at the most challenging track in the world. Everyone in the team worked so hard for this and I did my best to make sure that I could reward them with a great result. Thank you so much for everything!”

Dan Wells, Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG Driver: “It was an exhilarating experience and certainly great to wrap off Formula Masters’ Macau round with a podium. We were very strong during qualifying and went on to deliver solid results for the team on race day. Overall, I had an awesome weekend on this legendary circuit and would like to thank my sponsor, ENZI Footwear and my investors in Dan Wells Investors who have backed me in this great endeavor.”

John O’Hara, KCMG Deputy Managing Director: “The team came to Macau with victory in mind. We were keen to cap off Formula Masters 2013 season on top of the podium and I’d like to commend everyone in the team for making this possible. Thomas, Akash and Dan’s impressive showings at the Guia Circuit are laudable and I’m proud of what we have achieved over the weekend.”
