Škoda To Take Over Development Of Volkswagen T-Cross's Platform

Škoda will take over the development of Volkswagen’s MQB-A0 global platform. This is the first time the Czech carmaker will take responsibility for a global platform levering their experience particularly in the entry-level automotive segment.

Under its own brand and under the Volkswagen brand, Škoda aims to develop new models specifically for high-growth regions such as India, Russia, Africa, Latin America, and ASEAN.

Škoda says they will require highly-qualified employees for the MQB-A0 Global Platform, especially in the area of Technical Development. While some will transfer to the project from other positions, the majority will be newly recruited.

The MQB-A0 Global Platform is used worldwide and forms the basis for new models with combustion engines in the entry-level segments including the Volkswagen T-Cross (pictured above). The focus is on India, Latin America, Russia, Africa, and the ASEAN countries where the entry-level segments are of major importance and at the same time offer further growth potential.

Škoda has already built a localized version of the MQB-A0 called the MQB-A0-IN for the Indian market. This is used for the Kushaq which started production in Pune, India. The sub-compact SUV will also be offered for other emerging markets as well. A second model is already “in the starting blocks” and will be unveiled before the end of the year.
