It looks like it’ll be a busy Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) for MG. Aside from a potentially new entry-level variant of its MG4 EV—the MG4 Urban—the export brand of SAIC Motor is also cooking up a three-row plug-in hybrid SUV for launch: the 2027 MG RX9.
Also known as the Roewe RX9, MG QS, and MGS9 elsewhere, the RX9 has just been recognized as a Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) by the Department of Energy, paving the way for its public launch in the next couple of months.
Specs submitted by MG Philippines show it as a direct competitor to the BYD Tang DM-i. The RX9 measures in at 4,983 mm in length, 1,967 mm in width, and 1,786 mm in height. Its wheelbase—at 2,915 mm—is on the longer size of the mid-size SUV segment.
Confirmed is the RX9’s powertrain: a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and electric motor combo that produces 328 horsepower (143 horsepower from the combustion engine, 239 horsepower from the electric motor). No peak torque is indicated, but the electric motor puts out 390 Nm. 0 to 100 km/h is quoted at 9.6 seconds.
Like the Tang DM-i, the RX9 routes all that power and torque through the front wheels via a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). A 24.7 kWh LFP battery, chargeable via Type 2 AC charging, means 100 kilometers of all-electric range, supplemented by a 65-liter fuel tank.
The RX9 features independent suspension throughout and rides on two-tone 20-inch alloy wheels with 255/45R20 tires. Standard exterior equipment includes LED headlights, heated and power folding side mirrors, and satin silver roof rails.
Inside, it receives a 12.3-inch TFT digital display, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, power front seats with ventilation, heating, and massage functions (12-way with memory for the driver, 8-way for the front passenger), and tri-zone climate control with overhead vents.
Setting the RX9 apart from its competition is its seating configuration. While its rivals have gone for a 2+3+2 (7-seater layout), the RX9 goes for a more luxurious 2+2+2 (6-seater layout). The second-row captain’s seats have 4 ways of adjustments, while the reclinable third row folds down in a 50/50 split.
The RX9 comes equipped with a full suite of safety gear including front and rear sensors, a 360-degree camera, tire pressure monitoring, and the MG Pilot ADAS with adaptive cruise control, front collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, blind spot detection, and front and rear cross traffic alert.
With the Tang DM-i priced at P 2,098,000, expect MG Philippines to zero in on a similar price range perhaps potentially undercutting its Chinese rival. Expect a market launch as early as the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) in June.

What is happening to the other 3 row MG? It came out 2x from MIAS and as of now still no launch made. It first came out as Maxus D90. Now under SAIC, it is now to be released as MG Majestor (TRQ-L's PPV version) and yet still none. Would this RX9 be the 3 row replacement?
