The 2022 Emgrand Is Geely's P 674k Answer To The Toyota Vios

After using it to underpin its Coolray sub-compact SUV, Geely is now expanding the use of its BMA platform to underpin yet a new product: the fourth-generation Geely Emgrand. First previewed a month ago, this is the third product to be underpinned by the BMA after the Binrui compact sedan and the Coolray sub-compact SUV.

Ready to take on the likes of the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla Altis in terms of size—it measures 4,638 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm, the Emgrand is priced, remarkably, like a Honda City or Toyota Vios. In China, the 2022 Emgrand starts at RMB 87,000 (P 674,000) and tops out at just RMB 92,000 (P 712,000). Basically, it echoes the formula of the local MG 5 which offers one-size larger space with one-size smaller pricing.

Aside from adopting the BMA platform, the Emgrand also gains the new corporate Geely look seen in the likes of the Preface and Coolray.

However, to keep the pricing down (and to give it some differentiation versus the similarly-sized Binrui), Geely has opted to skip the turbocharged engine option for the Emgrand. Instead, they’re retaining its normally-aspirated 1.5-liter 4-cylinder but with improved refinement, throttle control, and camshaft control. Outputs are now at 114 horsepower and 147 Nm of torque. The sole transmission is a CVT.

There’s also no advanced driver assist features too, but it does get up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, and stability control. It also gets the same 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen found in the Coolray.

Should Geely Philippines bring in the Emgrand?

  3. If priced that level when it reaches shore it's a winner. Good design good quality what's to think more. Vios will be dethroned.
