Omoda Just Made People Bike Around To Promote Eco Travel

In what could be considered as one of the weirdest ways to launch a brand, Omoda invited over a thousand users, partners, and motoring journalists from more than 30 countries to China to bike around Shen Shan Park in Wuhu, China.

Though the Omoda 5 EV served as the support vehicle (see lead photo), none of the people in attendance got behind the wheel on this occasion. Instead, they were made to circle the city’s so-called “oxygen bar.”

After pedaling and some profuse sweating, finishers were even given medals to “commemorate their pioneering status in Omoda’s green and active lifestyle ecosystem.” There was even a “low-carbon fashion flash mob” at the finish line.

Most will joke that this activity is a preview of what’s going to happen if your EV runs out of juice (or what happens if your Omoda 5 breaks down), but the corporate folks spin a different tale.

Per Omoda, the activity is meant to “propel the auto industry onto a longer and further road of sustainable development.”

For its part, Omoda says they’ve developed a carbon reduction plan for the entire lifecycle of their products. In the manufacturing process, they use environmentally-friendly materials and advanced technologies to achieve lower production energy consumption and higher recycling rates. They have also confirmed that every vehicle in their portfolio will have a corresponding New Energy (BEV, PHEV, or HEV) version developed from the get-go.

At the Eco Ride, Omoda also signed a memorandum with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) linking multiple resources to exert greater environmental protection down to its supply chain.
