New car sales ended flat in 2025 with 463,646 units sold based on the full year data released by members of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA). 2025’s full-year figure is 0.8 percent lower than 2024’s 467,252.
If there’s a silver lining, once sales data is combined with non-CAMPI and TMA members, such as BYD, new vehicle sales reached 491,395 units—a 3.7 percent growth versus 2024’s 473,842 units.
According to a statement released by CAMPI, the overall industry delivered a modest growth last year due to the overall unfavorable market environment during the second half caused by a number of factors such as the reimposition of excise tax on pick-up trucks and several natural calamities experienced across the country.
Among CAMPI-TMA members, broken down, 92,924 Passenger Cars were sold accounting for 20.04% of total new vehicles sold; a year-on-year decline of 23.1 percent (120,770 units in 2024). Commercial Vehicles accounted for 79.96 percent of the market with 370,722 units—a 7 percent increase versus 2024 (346,482 units).

Electrified vehicles (xEVs) made a significant impact with 58,905 units sold (32,489 units from CAMPI-TMA members), accounting for 12 percent of the 2025 market from only 5.5 percent the previous year. Combined Battery Electric (BEV), Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV), and Hybrid Electric (HEV) vehicle sales grew 142.5 percent versus 2024.
All sub-segments in the Commercial Vehicle segment showed growth in 2025 save for Medium-Duty Trucks & Buses (Category IV which dropped 7.1 percent). Others, such as Category I (AUVs, MPVs) is up 7 percent to 87,731 units; Category II (Light Commercial Vehicles including pickup trucks and SUVs) up 7.2 percent to 271,630 units; Category III (Light-Duty Trucks & Buses) up 1.83 percent to 6,783 units; and Category V (Heavy-Duty Trucks & Buses) up 20.5 percent to 888 units.
“We attribute last year’s achievement to the aggressive promotional campaigns and the new product introductions from the various car brands which expanded consumer options especially in electrified and commercial vehicle segments," said Jose Maria Atienza, president of CAMPI.
Last December, 47,371 new vehicles were sold (42,870 units from CAMPI-TMA members), making it the strongest monthly performance since 2017. Toyota led all brands with 23,895 units sold (55.74 percent market share) followed by Mitsubishi with 7,556 units sold (17.63 percent market share) and Suzuki in third with 2,002 units (4.67 percent market share).

Hybrids & EV's are starting to dictate the flow of vehicle sales in our country. Those who's stubborn to follow the trend will be left out. Well, except of course for the utility vehicle segment.

DeleteWhile we are fence sitting, you guys play the guinea pigs of EV manufacturers for now. Cheers!
Guinea pigs huh? Many EU companies have already been successful in making good and affordable EVs. These are amongst the oldest car companies out there.
DeleteI think the 'experiment' is already finished and those ignoring the results (and the rising market demand) will be left fighting over the shrinking market of petrol-exclusive customers.
Where is BYD
DeleteBYD isn't in the list, because they're not a member of CAMPI and did not provide a data breakdown.
DeleteThey were, oddly enough, included in the full-year sum in the press release.
Excise tax on pickup trucks badly hurt the sales of Ford,Nissan,Isuzu and Foton.
ReplyDeleteFord's only sedan, Mustang sold 217 units? That's a lot. While Jetour had 113 sedan units in the list. What sedan does Jetour have in the market?
ReplyDeleteIce Cream, for sure. I don't know if they classify the X50 as a passenger car.

Did Daihatsu's err Toyota's bland, overpriced passenger cars succumbed to the EV competitors?
More like the passenger car segment is shrinking by a lot.
DeleteFor personal use sedans a dying breed. Taxis keep it alive
