The Xpeng X9 has earned the maximum five-star rating from the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP). This recognition highlights the all-electric luxury MPV’s advanced safety engineering, with scores of 91 percent in both Crash Protection and Post-Crash Safety.
According to the Euro NCAP report released last October 12, the Xpeng X9 earned a five-star safety rating across all variants, demonstrating strong occupant protection in various crash scenarios. The X9 achieved impressive scores of 95 percent for frontal impact, 99 percent for side impact, and 98 percent for rear impact protection. Among its notable safety features is a center airbag designed to reduce the risk of injury by preventing front-seat occupants from colliding with each other during a side impact.
Beyond its active safety technologies, the Xpeng X9 incorporates class-leading body engineering and construction techniques that set it apart in the premium MPV segment, combining exceptional structural rigidity, advanced materials and reinforced occupant protection.
At the core of its construction is an exceptionally rigid body structure with torsional rigidity of 46,000 Nm/degree, a benchmark for structural strength in its class. This is complemented by an 83percent high-strength steel and aluminum construction, designed to balance impact resistance with weight efficiency. Its reinforced passenger safety cage incorporates 2,000 MPa hot-stamped steel in critical areas, including the pillars and side sills, to help resist deformation and reduce cabin intrusion during severe impacts.
Further strengthening the X9's body structure are 19 closed circular ring structures, engineered to distribute collision forces throughout the vehicle and help preserve the integrity of the passenger compartment. Together, these advanced engineering features position the X9 among the most structurally sophisticated MPVs in its segment.
The assessment also highlighted the X9’s advanced driver assistance systems, including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), which provide additional protection by helping drivers avoid potential collisions. The ACC system achieved a 94 percent score in car-to-car scenarios, while AEB scored 87 percent for frontal collision avoidance. All X9 variants are also equipped with a child presence detection system that alerts the driver if a child is left unattended inside the vehicle.
The Xpeng X9 also scored 91 percent for Post-Crash Safety, reflecting its emergency response and occupant rescue capabilities. Euro NCAP highlighted features that facilitate safer and faster rescue operations, including automatic high-voltage system deactivation, door unlocking and hazard light activation.
“The Xpeng X9’s five-star Euro NCAP safety rating is an important recognition of our commitment to delivering vehicles that combine advanced technology with the highest standards of safety,” said Vince Yambao, Chief Operating Officer of Xpeng Philippines. “As we introduce a new generation of intelligent electric vehicles to the Philippine market, safety remains a fundamental priority.
