Geely Introduces World's First Open-Source EV Platform

Geely debuts the world’s first open-source all-electric vehicle architecture. Plans are underway not just to use this new platform on all of their nine automotive brands including Volvo, but will also offer it to other manufacturers as well.

The Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) will be first used on the Lynk & Co Zero which will hit the market in 2021. At the same time, in an industry first, they will offer the vehicle architecture to other original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and third parties. Among those revealed to be in talks with Geely to use the SEA platform? Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz.

The SEA platform is modular and flexible. It can accommodate smaller A-segment to larger D- and even E-segment vehicles. It will also spawn an LCV variant with different packaging offerings including front, rear, and all-wheel drive specifications.

Geely says the new platform will offer unrivalled connectivity, shared vehicle functions, e-motor capabilities, constant over-the-air-updates that will keep vehicles up to date, leading autonomous drive functions, and will offer a maximum range in excess of 700 kilometers between recharging with the capacity to increase range in the future. Moreover, development costs are expected to reduce thanks to increased R&D synergies.

Geely says that they expect thousands of vehicles to be produced using the SEA platform.
