Mazda Adds Turbocharged Engine to CX-30 Compact Crossover

Right after Subaru introduced a more powerful version of its XV, Mazda has raised the stakes and has now plopped in a more powerful engine into its CX-30 as well. Meet the CX-30 2.5 Turbo.

Beneath the hood, the compact crossover now packs the 2.5-liter Skyactiv Turbo engine good for up to 250 horsepower and 434 Nm of torque (227 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque with regular unleaded). Mated to 6-speed automatic and the i-Activ all-wheel drive with off-road traction assist, the CX-30 will deliver a more engaging driving experience.

Similar to their approach with the Mazda3 Turbo, there are no visual cues that point to its added performance except for black-colored 18-inch wheels, larger tailpipes, gloss black mirrors, and the small “Turbo” badge at the back.

As the top-trim model of the CX-30 line-up, the CX-30 2.5 Turbo will come with a complete suite of driver assist technology (i-Activsense). Its adaptive cruise control has also been upgraded with Traffic Jam Assist which provides steering inputs that can help assist the driver stay within lane markers at speeds below 64 km/h.

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 2.5 Turbo will go on sale in the North American market by the end of 2020. It’s highly likely that it will remain a product exclusive to that region although the carmaker hasn’t confirmed otherwise.
