For the Price of a Small Crossover, Geely PH Offers the 7-Seater Okavango SUV

Geely launches a very unique offering—one that blurs the lines between an SUV and an MPV: the 2021 Okavango. Being in one of the most tightly contested segments, the tech-driven Chinese automaker aims to challenge the competition by offering a vehicle that’s not only highly functional, but stylishly uncompromising as well.

With the all-new 2021 Okavango, Geely’s got something going. It’s a crossover in the truest sense of the word—blending the modern sportiness of an SUV, with the space and flexibility of an MPV. Designed with the discerning individual in mind, it escapes the “mom car” look. In fact, it offers an up-to-the-minute look sought after by Filipino buyers.

The mid-sized 7-seater crossover has its name derived from the Northwestern Botswana’s vast inland delta, Okavango Delta, UNESCO’s 1,000th World Heritage Site. As a nod to the legacy of its namesake, the Geely Okavango is made to push boundaries, designed under the brand’s “Expansive Aesthetic” concept. The result is a broad, muscular body with a modern refined design. It features the “Cosmic Recall” front grille and Skyline dual-track roof rails. The Okavango sits atop 18-inch aerodynamic rims with 225/55R18 Continental tires.

Locally, the Okavango is available in two variants Comfort and Urban. Both variants are powered by the 1.5-liter G-Power turbocharged gasoline engine with dual variable valve timing. The 3-cylinder engine is mated to a 48-volt EMS mild-hybrid system which bumps up the output to 190 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. This engine is connected to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic driving the front wheels.

Inside the cabin, it boasts of generous accommodations. The second- and third-rows offer individual headrests making it comfortable for everyone onboard. The second-row slides fore and aft, and at its largest offers up to one meter of legroom. In addition, the seats can be configured in 19 different ways, making it one of the most versatile vehicles in the market. With all but the front seats folded, it can accommodate 2,050 liters of cargo space.

It also doesn’t skimp on features with a three-zone automatic climate control with CN95-certified air filters. Air vents reach all the way to the third row assuring everyone of a comfortable journey. Fabric seats are standard, though in the Urban, they’re upgraded to plus leather seats.

Built-in technology is also quite high on the Okavango with its all-digital gauge cluster and 10.25-inch HD infotainment system with QDLink with eight speakers (four speakers for the entry-level Comfort variant). It also has power front seats, a remote auto start, and a power tailgate.

Its high spec continues to the safety it provides. This mid-sized crossover is equipped with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control which incorporates hill start assist and hill descent control. Rear parking sensors and camera are standard, but the Urban upgrades it to a full 360-degree panoramic camera.

The all-new 2021 Geely Okavango is available in 4 colors: Storm Grey, Porcelain White, Luna Silver, and Marble Black. The 1.5T Urban variant is priced at P1,328,000 and the 1.5T Comfort at P1,208,000.
