Great Wall PH To Launch 3 Electrified Vehicles At MIAS

Three electrified vehicles will be launched by Luxuriant Automotive Group, Inc. (LAGI), the exclusive distributor of Great Wall Motor at the upcoming Manila International Auto Show in April. The list includes one battery electric vehicle and possibly two plug-in hybrids.

The solitary battery electric vehicle, the Ora 03 (formerly known as the Ora Good/Funky Cat) isn’t new per se as it was first previewed in October of last year. However, LAGI aims to price it and make it available for retail sales by the time MIAS comes around (pricing is said to be around P 1.5 million).

The Ora 03 is a retro-styled BEV powered by a single front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 145 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. Though no exact specs were given even during the preview, the development unit brought in by GWM Philippines is the Ora 03 400. This means packing a 63-kWh lithium-ion battery pack good for, as its name indicates, around 400 kilometers of range (420 kilometers according to the WLTP standard).

Meanwhile, for fans who want something a bit more rugged, there’s the GWM Haval MengLong. Its Chinese name, 猛龙, curiously enough, translates directly to Raptor. Hence, the new off-roader could potentially be called the Haval Raptor (unless Ford complains, of course).

The Haval MengLong is a plug-in hybrid sized similar to the brand’s own Tank 300. It uses GWM’s Hi4 PHEV system that incorporates a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with two electric motors—109 horsepower (80 kW) driving the front and 150 kW (204 horsepower) driving the rear. Total output is rated at around 378 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque. With a battery size of up to 27.5-kWh, this could equate to an all-electric range of around 100 kilometers.

Unlike the Tank 300, however, the MengLong doesn’t use a body-on-frame construction. Still, it still has 200 mm of ground clearance, a wading depth of 560 mm (batteries and all), and an available rear diff-lock.

Finally, there’s the Wey Gaoshan. Wey is yet another brand in GWM’s umbrella and is named after their own chairman, Wei Jiangjun.

The Gaoshan is pretty much a contender to the likes of the Toyota Alphard and the GAC M8. However, unlike those two other choices, this one gets a PHEV system too. The turbocharged 1.5-liter is also paired with two electric motors enough for a combined 487 horsepower and 765 Nm of torque. Zero to 100 km/h is done in just 5.7 seconds. Pure electric range? Around 140 kilometers.

Features found on the Gaoshan would rival those of more luxurious makes with three rows of “butterfly seats,” tri-zone climate control, second row zero gravity seats, a 12.5-liter refrigerator, sunshades for the second- and third rows, 11 USB ports, a 27-inch 4K display for the driver and infotainment, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

GWM sold around 259 units during its first year in the Philippines. With a much larger dealer footprint planned and the launch of these three all-new models, they think that 2024 will bring even more sales.

  1. Uly, is there an available model breakdown of GWM Ph 2023 sales? Is the Cannon pickup the bestseller?

  2. They better rename the Gaoshan and the Menglong. Why would a Chinese automaker just keep the Chinese name as is for an international market? Photos from the GWM CNY dinner showed them using the Chinese names rather than new names for our market. Keeping the names as is would not be a good move and not sell imho.

    1. It's likely just a placeholder. I'm pretty sure they'll be changing the names for the Philippine market.
