Remember the refreshed Hilux? The one that debuted the 48-volt hybrid tech for the Australian market? Well, apparently, this update has just arrived in ASEAN, but in Indonesia of all places.
The third update to the eighth-generation Hilux, the 2024 update gains a refreshed front-end which visually aligns it with the North American Tacoma. The grille, which will be found across the line-up, is now octagonal-shaped with a honeycomb insert at the top part and an egg-crate-like pattern at the bottom. Splitting it is a solid horizontal bar with the words, “Hilux” stamped on. Higher-grade models also enjoy new headlights with a separate low- and high-beam design as well as a more unique bumper treatment with a relocated LED fog lamp.
In Indonesia, the new Hilux doesn’t get the hybrid treatment. Instead, it continues mechanically unchanged with its 2.4-liter 2GD-FTV making 150 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. Transmission options remain a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic with a sequential override feature.
The same goes with the story inside where the 2024 Hilux remains unchanged over there. In fact, consider the Philippines lucky as the Indonesian market retains the services of a 7-inch infotainment system (even for the top-spec model) which doesn’t have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto!
Given that both Australia and now Indonesia receiving the updated Hilux, the Philippines will likely get the same visual treatment too, save of course for the Hilux GR Sport and the Hilux Conquest which both received the widebody treatment as part of their 2023 updates.
The biggest question is whether the Philippines will get the services of the hybrid powertrain. And if it will, which variants will benefit?

ReplyDeleteWhenever the grille is integrated to the bumper, it screams cheap cost-cutting. Hilux has always had a proper grille assembly but this new one is an unwelcome u-turn. The whole truck looks “engineered to a price.”
