Being the premium arm of BYD, Denza is aiming for a more premium segment. That much is clear as they unveil their first offering in the Philippines, the D9 MPV. From the outside it may seem a more upscale BYD eMax 9, but the details say otherwise.
The Denza D9 is a hefty luxury MPV. It measures 5,256mm long, 1,960mm wide, and 1,920mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,110 mm. Compared to the eMax 9, it is 111 mm longer, 10 mm narrower, 115 mm taller, with an added 65 mm wheelbase stretch. It boasts of 410 liters cargo space even with the rear seats up (down 60 liters), that can be extended to 2,310 liters (up 274 liters). Denza also says the second row can have up to 1,215mm of leg space, while the third row can have up to 920mm of space, but that’s not at the same time.
There’s meticulous attention to aesthetics as well. The front face has what Denza calls a “Pi-motion” front face, while the side profile’s silhouette features a “Meteor Trail waistline”. The rear also has a flair with its “Star Feather” tail light design.
The D9’s difference from its BYD brother is apparent immediately once you open the second row. You have Nappa leather on the captain seats, there’s a separate panoramic sunroof for this area, and the door panels have natural wood veneers making every car unique in terms of pattern or wood design.
The second row is also plusher in every way. The captain seats are wider and have a Zero Gravity function. This reclines the whole seat up to 152 degrees and pushes out the leg rest for a full body pressure relief and relaxation. This is accompanied by a touch-based control screen on the armrest that lets you control the 10-point massage, heating, ventilation, and other things in the area. You can adjust the sunshade of the panoramic roof, the second row’s aircon, and even the temperature of the 7.5-liter fridge that can go from -6 degrees Celsius to 50 degrees Celsius to keep drinks cold or food warm.
As for the last row, it has a wide space for 3 people. There’s a good sitting position and each corner gets an illuminated USB Type A charging port as well as twin cup holders and a cubby hole.
Denza ditched the fancy vent-less and shifter-less design of the eMAX 9 and went for a highly functional front section with the D9. The vents and elegant shifter have returned, along with updated amenities.
The driver has dedicated buttons too for the boss’s needs like the Power Sliding Doors, Powered Tailgate, and the Refrigerator. There’s even a Volume Knob that also acts as Mute button. They also have quick access to the Blind Spot Detection, Parking Sensors, Drive Modes, and Power Modes.
The touchscreen is a massive 15.6-inch unit that has 1080p resolution. It’s customizable to a degree and you can even change your wallpaper. In front of the driver, aside from the digital gauge cluster, is a 12-inch heads-up display while the Rear View Mirror was also digitalized.
Compared to the front-wheel drive eMax 9, the Denza D9 ups that with the all-weather security of all-wheell drive. The fifth-generation DM-i (yes, it is a plug-in hybrid) means it can go up to 180 kilometers on pure EV mode and 980 kilometers of combined gas-electric range. Ride comfort is also plush thanks to the DiSus C Adaptive Suspension system that can respond to movement in milliseconds.
As for battery, it has a 40-kWh LFP battery and has an 80-kW fast charging capability, allowing it to power up from 30 to 80 percent in just 25 minutes. It can also switch between EV, HEV Parallel, and HEV Series depending on the car’s need, and has a 3.3-kW V2L power supply.
For safety, it has 9 Airbags and the DiPilot Advanced Intelligent Driving Assistance. It features Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Collision Warning, Rear Collision Warning, and Automatic Emergency Braking among others.
Like the BYDs before it, the Denza D9 has NFC, Bluetooth, and Digital Key. It also has its own Denza app that allows you to control even the refrigerator, along with the car’s startup and windows among others.
The Denza D9 is priced at P 4,298,000 and will come with a brown and black interior theme. It will be available in Cosmos Black, Arctic White, Starry Night Grey, and Whale Sea Blue. The price is inclusive of 24/7 roadside assistance, 8-year or 150,000 kilometer battery warranty, free chargers (AC wall box and portable charger), free 3-year PMS, and membership to the Denza Club Community. For the first 300 customers, it will come with an introductory price of P 3,998,000.

ReplyDeleteNope. Lexus shouldn't be worried about a P4M van from a Chinese automaker. People but Chinese cars usually ranging from below P1M to P2.5M. Beyond that is considered expensive and impractical buy.

I don't know who to believe but looking at the Lexus equivalent it's almost double the price. That doesn't seem like a competitive option to me.

BYD, the parent company of Denza, has poor after-sales service. It takes more than just the car for a complete ownership experience.
