Conquer the Roads with the Hyundai Kona

Good looks can only get you so far in life, even in cars. It’s so easy to be enamored with a vehicle’s aesthetics to the point that it has also become easy to look the other way if the performance isn’t up to par.

The Sub-Compact SUV Kia Sonet is Headed for Global Markets After All

With a global reveal set for the first week of August, Kia Motors has confirmed that the production version of the Sonet sub-compact SUV may be made in India, but it’s destined for other global markets as well.

It’s said to be trimmed in high-quality materials and has key features including a digital display and instrument cluster, and a first-in-segment 10.25-inch HD touchscreen.

The Sonet will also feature an extensive list of active and passive safety equipment and can be equipped with up to 6 airbags.

Finally, the carmaker has confirmed that it will be made available in many of the brand’s global markets. No indication if this will include the ASEAN market though.

Review: 2020 Suzuki XL7 GLX

The modern family man doesn’t want to be seen driving an MPV, kiddos and doggos be damned. Whether it’s because he’ll get more respect on the road, or it’s easier on the eye, SUVs are the way to go. It’s for this reason why carmakers have been churning out SUVs of late which are basically MPVs with additional body cladding and ride height. The latest one to join the fray is the Suzuki XL7. Albeit they’re late in joining the party, if their efforts on the Ertiga is any indication, then you’re in for a treat.

Review: 2020 Chery Tiggo 2 AT

For any product to succeed, not just of the automotive variety, they must fulfill some basic requirements. Called “hygiene factors,” they’re the simplest set of values that consumers expect even before they’ll consider a purchase. Let’s consider a can of corned beef—the most basic requirements would be that: it’s affordable, well-packed, and edible. So, while the “can affords” would rather have Delimondo coating their tongues, a can of, say, Argentina should suit the hygiene factors for canned meat. Where are we going with this, you ask?

Honda’s Reminding You That the BR-V’s Still the Most Powerful One in Its Class

Horsepower. It’s something we commonly associate with sporty or performance cars. Yet, we forget that this unit of measure is also very applicable to something even more modest—like the 7-seater Honda BR-V.

Review: 2020 Suzuki S-Presso GL

Half a million pesos won’t get you much car these days. What was once the price range for mid or even high-grade compacts will now net you a no-frills micro car. This is as basic as motoring gets, a slight upgrade from having to settle for a second-hand jalopy or even taking public transportation. That said, Suzuki’s come up with a favorable reputation in the segment, a streak it continues with the 2020 S-Presso.

With the COVID-19 pandemic sure to affect public transportation, it seems a private vehicle becomes the best and safest way to transport oneself (and the family). But a brand-new car is expensive, right? Wrong, if you’re looking at the Chery Tiggo 2.

Mazda Gives the CX-3 A New Engine and Polymetal Gray Color for 2021

UPDATE: See Mazda Philippines response below (05/21).

The introduction of the CX-30 crossover has somewhat muddled the positioning of the smaller (and much older) CX-3, especially since the gap in pricing doesn’t really amount to much. Well, Mazda seems to have understood the problem and will start to offer the CX-3 with a brand-new engine for 2021 helping it confidently slot below the CX-30 in both price and positioning.

Toyota Finally Shows Off the 2021 Yaris Cross (w/ 9 Photos, Video)

After a canceled launch at the 2020 Geneva International Motor Show, Toyota is now unveiling its all-new Yaris Cross—an urban-centric crossover tailor-made to suit the city, but with still enough credentials to call it a true SUV.

Underpinned by Toyota’s new GA-B platform, the Yaris Cross features a “big small” design that also characterizes its sibling, the Yaris hatchback. Competing in the B-segment along with the Nissan Juke and the Ford Puma (no, not the Ford EcoSport), the Yaris Cross features the same wheelbase as the all-new Yaris but is 240 mm longer with a 30 mm taller ground clearance. It will slot below the C-HR and RAV4 in terms of exterior size and positioning.

Europe is highlighting the use of their fourth-generation hybrid in the Yaris Cross. Displacing 1.5-liters, this 3-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine puts out 116 horsepower driving either the front- or four wheels. Meanwhile, for the Japanese market, it’ll still have a non-hybrid version. This Dynamic Force 1.5-liter 3-cylinder will be solely available in front-wheel drive, and comes with a choice between a 6-speed manual or CVT.

The simple, spacious interior comes with all sorts of storage solutions adding to the Yaris Cross’s practicality and versatility. This includes a power tailgate, a split-adjustable cargo floor, and a rear seat with a 40/20/40 split-fold.

The foundation of the Yaris Cross’s safety performance is its GA-B platform, giving the car an exceptionally rigid body. With the intention of meeting the highest and most rigorous independent test standards, it will further benefit from Toyota Safety Sense active safety systems and advanced driver assistance functions as well.

The Yaris Cross will be manufactured at Toyota Motor East Japan Co., Ltd. for the Japan market, and at Toyota Motor Manufacturing France for the European market.
