The Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport is a 300-Horsepower Hot Hatch Designed for the Nürburgring

Volkswagen didn’t have to wait long to launch a more powerful version of the Golf GTI with the new GTI Clubsport. Based off the all-new Mk8 Golf, it produces more power than the current Golf R while still retaining the front-wheel drive layout. Bonkers, right?

The Golf GTI Clubsport has a power output of 300 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque using its EA888 evo4 engine. Despite being a front-driver, Volkswagen says the new electromechanical front-axle locking differential should keep its hot hatch pointed in the right direction. Furthermore, it has a dedicated Nürburgring driving profile designed for the legendary Nordschleife track in Germany.

As Clubsport, it’s differentiated by its almost-open front bumper design with a larger aerodynamic front wing. It also has wider side sills, and at the back, a two-part roof spoiler which increases downforce in conjunction with the front wing. Oval tailpipes complete the transformation as is a lowered ride height (10 mm lower than the GTI).

Inside, the GTI Clubsport features sport seats, a sports steering wheel with perforated leather grip zones, aluminum pedals, and paddle shifters for the 7-speed DSG gearbox.

Currently, the Golf GTI Clubsport is destined for Europe only, although plans are already underway for a brand-new Golf R which will offer even more horsepower and all-wheel drive.
