Honda PH is Finally Launching the 2021 City and CR-V Next Week

Update 1: Honda Cars PH has just revealed the engine, variants, and colors of the all-new City (10/16).

As part of their 30th Anniversary celebration, earlier Honda Cars Philippines said that they will be launching two new vehicles this month. After some speculation, we now know what those two vehicles are: the 2021 CR-V and the 2021 City.

Revealed through a teaser photo (see below), the wait won’t be long for these two much-awaited vehicles. Mark your calendars because it is happening on October 22 at 6 PM (you can watch it live through this link).

Starting things off with the all-new City, it’s the newest version of Honda’s storied and very popular sub-compact sedan. Honda’s best-selling nameplate in the country, the 2021 City rides on a brand-new platform that stretches its size by a whopping 113 mm. It’s also wider by 53 mm and lower by 10 mm.

Based on the teaser, Honda Cars Philippines will be offering the RS variant—the first time it’ll be offered on the City model. With that, it will get sportier styling and of course, the Ignite Red color.

As for the engine, though Honda has yet to reveal any information, it’s worth noting that in Thailand, it’s available exclusively with a 1.0-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine making 122 horsepower and 173 Nm of torque. In Malaysia though, there’s no turbo but it gets a normally-aspirated 1.5-liter DOHC. This version makes 121 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to an Earth Dreams CVT.

Meanwhile, for the CR-V it will get a more upscale and rugged appearance thanks to a restyled front end. It gets a new grille, refreshed bumper with a more striking design, and a brand-new design for its 18-inch wheels.

The bigger question is what is going to be under the hood. Will Honda use this refresh to introduce a more powerful version of the 1.6-liter i-DTEC engine? Currently, the 7-seater version of the CR-V uses a 120 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. In Thailand, the very same engine outputs 160 horsepower thanks to a two-stage turbocharger. For the 5-seater version, it’s very likely that Honda will carryover the existing 2.0-liter SOHC i-VTEC engine.

The countdown begins for these two new models, so mark your calendars and join Honda Cars Philippines live on its official market reveal on October 22. Watch it live through this link.
