2022 GAC EMKOO Shows Off A Striking New Design Direction

GAC Motor reveals its EMKOO SUV. Embodying the brand’s new design concept—Hi-Tech Industrial Aesthetics—it’s meant to convoy a futuristic car design penned in the “age of intelligence.” Moreover, it showcases where GAC Motor’s design direction is headed.

The EMKOO’s low-nose, high-profile tail is inspired by the shape of a recurve bow. Aside from its dynamic stance, the EMKOO features a sharp and integrated headlamp design which they call, “Eyes of Revelation.” The LEDs are programmed to light up individually and sequentially to provide a unique visual experience. They also extend even into the V-shaped grille. Towards the back, the split taillights which GAC Motor calls “Quantum Lightsabers” form a red crescent when lit. Dual vertical twin exhaust pipes complete the exterior highlights.

Inside, GAC Motor uses the words, “subtle” and “perfection” to describe the EMKOO’s interior. Inspired by traditional Chinese design, the round “Energy-Storing Scroll” is meant to be the visual highlight here. It’s meant to be intuitive and ergonomic while housing more functional elements such as the air vents and center screen. It also has a crystal e-shifter and electronically actuated paddle locks for the doors similar to the Lexus NX. The front seats also have strategically placed speakers for a more immersive audio experience.

Like the newest GAC Motor models, the EMKOO uses the brand’s Mega Wave powertrain. Aside from traditional turbocharged 1.5- and 2.0-liter variants, a hybrid variant with a 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle engine paired with an electric motor is also available.

The EMKOO joins the EMPOW sedan which was also previewed at MIAS in catering to a younger, tech-driven buyer. It’s slated to enter production by around August of this year.
