Toyota Confirms Manual Transmission-Equipped GR Supra Is Coming

Ending years of would they or wouldn’t they, Toyota has finally announced that it will release the GR Supra with a manual transmission.

While technical details remain few and far between, the carmaker did confirm that the gearbox is “an all-new, tailor-made manual transmission.” This suggests that the gearbox will not come from the BMW parts bin. Full details though are coming in the next few weeks.

So far, Toyota hasn’t confirmed to which engine the new gearbox will be connected to, however, several dealer reports pointed out that it will be mated to the twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-6.

Along with the photo of the three-pedal layout, Toyota also released a photo of the GR Supra’s rear end. The manual will stand out from the automatic version because of the red “Supra” emblem at the back.

Best news? The manual-equipped GR Supra is a global model with Europe, North America, and even Australia all confirmed to get it. As for the Philippines, given that the two-seater coupe only saw modest success, it’s highly unlikely that Toyota Motor Philippines would dabble on yet another GR Supra experiment. That said, they could decide to bring in a limited number to add a much halo effect on their less-than-successful sportscar.
