2024 Volkswagen Tharu: This Is (Finally) It. Prices, Specs, Features

With initial stocks at the ready and the full specs and features already released, Volkswagen Philippines has finally revealed the final piece of the Tharu puzzle: the price.

Now on sale starting today, the 2024 Volkswagen Tharu is the first all-new VW model launched in the Philippines in more than two years. It comes with a P 1,808,000 for the base 300 TSI SE and P 1,945,000 for the top-of-the-line 300 TSI SEL. Check the full prices and specs here, or scroll below.

Named after an ethnic group of people indigenous to the Terai in southern Nepal, the Made-in-China Tharu is positioned above the T-Cross and below the Tiguan in Volkswagen’s global line-up. Sold as the Taos in North America, the Tharu rides on the MQB A1 platform and has independent suspension all around.

Powering it is a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine equipped with BlueMotion technology. Maximum output is pegged at 160 horsepower, while maximum torque is 250 Nm. Both variants are equipped with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic driving the front wheels.

In terms of design, the Tharu serves as a bridge between Volkswagen’s current and future products—products that Volkswagen Philippines confirmed will arrive. Upfront, LED headlights are standard with the upscale 300 TSI SEL getting Active Matrix LEDs with a full-width light bar that intersects the VW logo. At the back, the same full-width light treatment continues, this time illuminating the logo as well. 18-inch alloys are also standard, with the 300 TSI SEL getting sporty red accents. The Tiguan 300 TSI SEL also gets the black appearance package for the bumper, roof, spoiler, and side view mirrors.

The 2024 Tharu comes in a total of four colors: Pure White, Mangan Gray, Petroleum Blue, and Polytech Blue (yes, that’s two shades of blue if you’re counting, but the Petroleum Blue’s only available on the 300 TSI SE, while the Polytech Blue is only available on the 300 TSI SEL).

Inside, the Tharu shows off a fully digital experience with an 8-inch active driver’s display as standard (10.25-inch inch on the 300 TSI SEL) and a large infotainment screen (8 or 12 inches). A powered driver’s seat is standard as is a powered tailgate, panoramic sunroof, and dual zone climate control with rear vents. The 300 TSI SEL, meanwhile, adds power adjustment for the front passenger, leather seats, and a hands-free system for the tailgate. It also gets a unique horizontal two-tone light gray/black leather seats with red accents.

Built with safety in mind, the Tharu comes standard with 6 SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control, Side Assist (blind spot indicators) with Rear Traffic Alert, and tire pressure sensors are standard. The 300 TSI SEL, meanwhile, adds active park assist, a 360-degree camera, and additional parking sensors for the front.

The all-new Tharu is now available for reservations at all authorized Volkswagen dealerships nationwide.

  1. Ridiculous pricing. It’s priced the same as the bigger CX-5 sport, Forester, 3008 Active after discounts.

Priced way above the Corolla Cross Hybrid and HRV turbo which are in the same size/segment.

    1. Tharu mainly competes with the Peugeot 3008 Active
It doesn't care about those generic made in Thailand and Malaysia SUVs as the Tharu is a premium SUV
Pricing of it is just fine

    2. Volkwagen means peoples car, so it s definitely not a premium brand any where in the world. But here they can put a premium price and it will sold well (5 units a month).

    3. Pricing of it is just fine? Sure, convince yourself that. LOL

  2. Volkswagen Tharu is a much better buy than the Peugeot 3008 Active
At least Volkswagen Philippines brought in a new vehicle in its lineup
Looking forward to the Lavida XR and the ID EV series next year

    1. Thanks to Han Cars, we already have the ID here. And they even have a better support system in place.

    2. Hancars and its owner is known for its bad reputation in the industry.šŸ˜‚ That business only cares about you when you're buying but they'll leave you behind in the end when they got your money šŸ˜‚
Volkswagen Philippines got much more dealers and service centers.

  3. Tharu competes with the 3008 Active? Check the dimensions, its a subcompact SUV made in China and trying to be premium.

You know who else are subcompact who wants to be premium? HRV, 2008 and Crosstrek. All better vehicles and cheaper than this Tharu.

  4. Saw this Tharu already last weekend
I really like the quality of it's interior which is one of the best on its class.
It drives good too..Transmission and engine of it are really good!

    1. This will sell well. 5 units a month baby!

  5. actually the Crosstrek is the most expensive, base starts just 2k shy from 2m :)

    1. But the unit has a regular 200k discount. It's a 2.0L engine, from Japan (import tax is at around 20%) whereas this one is 1.5L turbo from china (5% import tax). Crosstrek has AWD, Eyesight. Proper comparison is from other Chinese crossovers having the same features that is why it is definitely overpriced.

  6. Ford-jmc teŕritory vs vw-saic tharu, similar engine, transmission and specs/features but very big difference in price

    1. Build quality of the Ford Territory is much lower that's why its got terrible brakes, various electrical glitches and annoying interior noises in it.
Engine and transmission of the Tharu is much better too.
Already test driven both vehicles and I prefer the Tharu over Territory.

  7. VW should just do a Hyundai and take over the brand's local distribution to save it from obscurity. Hyundai had no qualms doing it when HARI was underperforming, VW should do the same to the underperforming ACM.

    1. Unlikely for that to happen as Volkswagen don't do direct local distribution business in SEA region..They won't waste their money opening an office here and only gonna sell a hundred units a year..Not worth it!

    2. 'Sell a hundred units a year.' You said it yourself, is that considered 'selling well?' AC Motors should've priced the entry-level cheaper, maybe around 1.5M-1.6M. Case in point, the Ford Territory has a 300K spread between its 2 variants. The specs of the 2 variants of the Volkswagen Tharu are quite similar to the specs of the Territory's 2 variants, and yet Ford was able to price its entry-level with a bigger spread between its top-of-the-line variant. AC Motors will be able to sell more of the entry-level variant if it's priced with a significantly greater spread between the other variant. Ford has proven that this strategy works.

    3. Yeah, I'm seeing lots of new Titaniums on the road and only a handful of Titanium X. Ford's sales strategy is definitely working.

  8. For similar engine, transmisiion, specs/features ill just go for changan cs55 plus luxe at 1.3M than the overprice 1.9M tharu. Tharu see thru sunroof cover not nice on ph settings
