The controversially styled 2024 Mazda2 has quietly arrived at local Mazda showrooms nationwide, and can be yours for P 1,250,000.
Thankfully, the Philippine spec hatchback doesn’t get the universally loathed body-colored grille. Instead, the sole Sport model gets the gloss black mesh grille. Together with the new bumper, it creates a be mustached look. An asymmetric placed color accent on the front grille and bumpers (yes, including the back) is supposed to enhance its youthful appearance. The 16-inch alloy wheels also feature a new diamond-cut design. A black carbon fiber wrap on the roof completes the changes.
Inside, the 2024 Mazda2’s sharp black interior also has contrasting red highlights that extend to the seat stitching and air vent surrounds. The seats themselves now have leather and suede upholstery making elevating the sporty feel. Enhancements were made in the form of improved cabin sealing reducing the NVH making it equally adept for short or long drives.
Powering the Mazda2 is the tried-and-tested 1.5-liter Skyactiv-G mated to a 6-speed automatic. This powerplant makes 110 horsepower and 141 Nm of torque—peppy numbers considering this sub-compact hatchback’s overall size and mass. For improved handling, there’s G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC-Plus) that adds brake-based torque vectoring as well as a retuned rear suspension with urethane top mounts in the shock absorber and retuned rear damper valves. The steering has also been recalibrated.
As for safety, the 2024 Mazda2 comes with a complete suite of i-Activsense including Front and Rear Smart City Brake Support, Forward Obstruction Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Blind-spot Monitoring, and Rear-Cross Traffic Alert.
The 2024 Mazda2 comes in eight shades: Soul Red Crystal, Machine Gray, Polymetal Gray, Deep Crystal Blue, Snowflake White Pearl, Platinum Quartz, Jet Black, and new for 2024, Aero Gray.
