Looks like we don’t have to wait long for the launch of the refreshed 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross. The compact crossover has just been homologated for the Philippines based on documents filed at the Land Transportation Office. And in a big twist, Toyota Motor Philippines may be dropping the base 1.8 G (non-hybrid) in favor of going with a full-hybrid range for the Corolla Cross this 2024.
So far, two variants have been confirmed for the 2024 Corolla Cross: the 1.8 G HEV and the 1.8 GR-S HEV. Both models use the same engine—the 2ZR-FXE mated to an electric motor and a 600-volt nickel metal Hydride (Ni-MH) battery. The combined output remains the same as before at 122 horsepower and continues to use the same E-CVT gearbox. The electric motor, however, has been retuned for improved quietness.
Launched in Thailand just last February, the new Corolla Cross drops the controversial catfish mouth grille and is replaced by one that emulates the likes of the Lexus LBX / Lexus LM. Standard features include “crystal” LED headlights with sequential front turn signal lights and a tweaked rear bumper. And because they do come with standard hybrid powertrains, the Hybrid badge has also been dropped in favor of their global “Beyond Zero” badging and the words, “HEV.” The 1.8 G HEV will get 17-inch alloy with 215/60R17 tires, while the 1.8 GR-S HEV gets 18-inch alloy wheels with 225/50R18 tires.
Inside, the Corolla Cross ditches the foot operated parking brake for an electronic one that’s supplemented with an auto hold function. If the Philippines were to follow Thailand’s lead, updated features include leather seats and a 10.1-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 7-inch TFT driver’s display is now standard, but that grows to a fully-digital setup on higher models with a 12.3-inch display for the GR-S. Other changes include LED interior lighting, wireless charger, and USB Type C ports front and back.
Currently, the Corolla Cross range starts at P 1,312,000 and goes up to P 1,884,000. However, if Toyota Motor Philippine does drop the non-hybrid 1.8 G, expect the refreshed Corolla Cross to start at P 1.6 million and will go up to P 1.9 million for the GR-S HEV.
Expect the official launch to happen in the next couple of months.
Good move. The case for a Corolla Cross G non-hybrid was already destroyed due to the existence of the Yaris Cross. Just hope that the G Hybrid will have the same level of kit as the current V Hybrid.

ReplyDeleteToyota should retain the non hybrid ICE Corolla Cross because consumers are well informed and they have better options. The cross hybrids use the same old NiMH battery for their hybrid which lasts just 3-5 years on average costing anywhere from $3,000 to $8,000. If the high-voltage battery completely dies, the car won't be able to be driven at all, in most cases. If you are mileage is below 20,000km a year, it will take you a looong time to break even from the fuel savings generated versus the P368K (V hybrid) to P532K (GR Sport hybrid) price difference between a regular internal combustion engine G and the hybrid models. Do the math. Also, resale values of used hybrids tend to be lesser compared to traditional engines because of the perceived cost of the battery replacement. Resorting to DNGA Daihatsu Toyotas if your budget is belowP1.4M is also problematic with all the issues and scandals they are facing which have yet to be addressed satisfactorily by TMP with vague claims that these Philippine DNGA Toyotas are not affected by these problems and recalls, even if they come from the same factories.

To be honest, nothing beat corolla cross hybrid on its priced range. Battle tested, reliable, durable, fuel efficient hybrid system, TNGA.
