Isuzu Philippines Corporation Launches All-New mu-X (w/ Complete Specs)

UPDATE 3: Here is our First Drive (11/25).

UPDATE 2: We have also included the complete specs below (9/14).

UPDATE: We have included the official television commercial below (9/10).

After months of anticipation, Isuzu Philippines Corporation has finally revealed its new flagship SUV: the mu-X. Replacing the Alterra, the mu-X comes in three variants all packed with new technological and design features combined with Isuzu’s penchant for delivering efficient performance.

Inspired by predatory large cats, the mu-X’s design is premium but purposeful boasting of features such as projector-type headlights, center roof antenna, color-keyed front and rear bumpers, and roof rails that can support up to 60 kilograms. The higher variants add fog lamps, chrome on the radiator grille, hood garnish, door handles, and tailgate. Power folding side mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators are standard as well.

The Isuzu mu-X’s spacious interior can accommodate 7 passengers comfortably. It has a new suspension system with Double Wishbones at the front and a Five-Link with coil springs and stabilizer bar at the back. The interior features leather on the seats, steering wheel, and door trim while entertainment is provided by a 6-speaker multi-media system with Aux-In, USB, iPod, and Bluetooth connectivity. GPS navigation is also standard. The range-topping model comes with steering wheel mounted controls and a 10-inch roof-mounted DVD monitor with remote control.

The mu-X comes with dual air conditioning with rear coolers (the range-topper has automatic climate control), speed sensing door locks, 19 storage compartments, 12 cup holders, a lockable and illuminated glove box, side step boards, and tow hooks. The instrument cluster also features electroluminescent dials with a multi-function display. Higher models feature six-way power adjustable driver’s seat and the segment’s first Smart Key passive keyless entry with push-button start/stop.

The mu-X is powered by a new engine: the 2.5-liter 4JK1-TC 4-cylinder engine with variable geometry turbo. Rated at Euro-2 emissions standard, the new engine underneath the mu-X is good for 136 horsepower at 3,400 rpm and 320 Nm of torque from 1,800-2,800 rpm. The engine can be mated to either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission. The mu-X boasts of increased off-roading capability thanks to its 4WD Terrain Command Select Dial on the four-wheel drive variant while all models boasts of excellent ground clearance (230 mm).

The mu-X is built to conform to the highest safety standards. The vehicle’s projector headlights, high-mount LED stop lamps and available fog lamps ensure visibility on the road. Equally helpful in this regard are the two-eye reverse sensing system and available reverse camera.

Passive safety systems fitted to the mu-X are dual front airbags, Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) with pre-tensioner and load-limiter seatbelts in all three rows of seats, and side impact beams inside the doors.

The All-New Isuzu mu-X is also loaded with active safety systems. Its disc brakes in all four wheels have an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) that has Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA). Providing more security are the new Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control System (TCS), which automatically brake a wheel or wheels if the systems sense any of these are slipping. This prevents skidding and loss of steering control, helping reduce fatal accidents by as much as 30%.

The All-New Isuzu mu-X is available in six color options: Splash White, Silky Pearl White, Cosmic Black, Titanium Silver, Aqua Blue and Outback Brown. Prices are set at P1.188 million for the mu-X LS M/T 4x2; P1.260 million for the mu-X LS-M M/T 4x2; P1.358 million for the mu-X LS-A A/T 4x2; and P1.748 million for the mu-X LS-A A/T 4x4. An additional P10K will be added to variant price for all Silky Pearl White units.

  1. i read that this car is almost the same as the Chevy trailblazer. The Mu-x is priced lower but also has a smaller engine. Whats the reasoning for this? Affordability?

    1. Affordability? Are you serious? It's way too overpriced fro a cheap pick up with roof. And that if you consider the far modern, more tech, and branded ford ranger pick up with a cash price of only 500k.

      Delete
    2. what i meant with affordability is it is priced cheaper than the competition. Unless i m wrong, it is priced lower than other cars in its class. But then if we will consider everything - maybe it is now worth buying.

    3. MU-X 4x2 A/T is definitely worth buying over the chevy trailblazer.

  3. Ok, buy this one and you will end up like the rest of the nuts who bought their alterra and dmaxx, ha ha, buy now, return to casa tomorrow for repairs, and then wait for eternity for isuzu to figure out what is wrong with it, until you are piss off and ask for a refund of your payment, but now less than 100k bwahahah!
Fools! Isuzu has been long dead in north america. Why? Because all isuzu are crap. Haven't you figurednit out? If there is an accident involving a rambo truck, it's always isuzu. If there is somthing that spits fumes all over, it's always an isuzu. Pinoys are nuts!

    4. Isuzu vehicles are said to be very durable... I don't know about that but most of their vehicles I see on the road are smoke belchers.

There a lot of other choices but some dumb people still choose the ancient crosswind. For fuck's sake the top of the line variant is priced over a million. I could buy a ford ranger at that price! Some people are just really stubborn I guess.

  13. there are good diesel engines too bud..the ones used by kia and hyundai..they're euro5 turbo-diesels just like VW turbo-diesels..

and i've heard rumors before on why isuzu use large displacement engines..its because they had issues on their CRDIs..if they use low displacement engines, the CRDI equipped on their vehicles cannot burn down the diesel properly..and that maybe the reason why isuzu vehicles emit black clouds..

    LOL!

and to potential buyers of this mu-x..ok lg ba na makita nyo yung sasakyan nyo na kamukha ng trailblazer pero iba yung badge..para kasing ang pangit e..

  17. another jap strategy, medyo dinagdagan lang ng kaunting specs pag sawa na ang lahat then another facelift or kopya sa iba. yun sportivo nila walang Airbags,no Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Electronic Stability Program, Tire-Traction Control, Hill-Assist, Descend-Assist. puro facelift lang hanggang magsawa kayong LAHAT HAHAHAHA until 20??

    ReplyDelete
  18. 135 HP for a seven seater SUV? Sooo underpowered. 2 airbags in this age when cars can drive themselves is just so jurassic. Me? I just need seatbelts,6 airbags, abs w ebd and vehicle stability control. We have to remember that head trauma is the most common cause of death in vehicular accidents so side curtain airbags are necessary.

    2. The only major downside that I've noticed are the large fender flares. Since I only see the sides of the hood, I always have to make sure there's space for the fenders. These also make the vehicle look even wider.

4jk1 tc engine is a 2005 engine or you can argue with wiki.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isuzu_D-Max.
4jj1 tc 3.0 are newer, duh euro 2 engines are labeled for 1996 carbon emission standard.

    1. Wikipedia? LOL. The 4JK1-TCX or (Hi power as they call it) is an all new engine. The older engine is the 3.0. Which has been updated again with the launch of the all new D-Max. If you don't like Isuzu, do us a favor and stop posting false comments. It's not even their fault for bringing in Euro 2 compliant engines.

    3. Of course its not mine. I'm never gonna be one of the idiots that will buy this vehicle. Unlike you, I use my brain.

Go ahead, buy one. No one's stopping you but remember, only drive on the slow lane so you won't disrupt the flow of traffic with your slow ass 3rd world SUV. You're the type of guy who'll buy anything Isuzu puts out and considers it a " masterpiece". Pitiful.

    8. LOL. Can you name one? With ESC, traction control, leather seats, power driver seat, entertainment system, can seat seven people, etc. for under 1.4M?

      Delete
    9. I'll name a few that's considerably better than your beloved mu-x:

      - Santa Fe
      - Kia Carens
      - CRV
      - X-Trail
      - Grand Livina

I'm also positive that the soon to be released everest is better than your mu-x, though they're both 3rd world SUVs.

I get why you like the mu-x though. You're probably thinking about flood, diesel consumption vs gasoline, and the so-called 7-seater capability. I guess you prioritize those features against comfort and real technology (not those entertainment sysytem). Basically, the mu-x is just a crosswind v2.0, but its your money, you can buy whatever you want with it.

      Delete
    10. Wow. Grand Livina? LOL. I really don't get why you despise "3rd world" ute-based SUVs. When they're sold in some parts of EU and SA.

      Delete
    11. 3rd world SUVs have compromised safety, ride feels like shit, they cause more pollution and etc. They're no different than jeepneys.

      Delete
    12. I don't see any compromise in safety when they're based from global platform trucks. Now that they come with safety features normally found in much more expensive sedans and SUVs. And most diesel engines today pass Euro IV or even higher standards. So pollution shouldn't be a major concern in this category. Like what you said earlier, we all have our own priorities. This car (or any other SUVs in your 3rd world category) obviously isn't for you. But you can't blame others if they like it. Btw, I don't get what you mean by "real technology", but I'm sure both Chevrolet and Isuzu put a lot of effort in these cars.

      Delete
    13. The 3rd world suvs' crash rating are bad, most of them are only Euro 2 compliant and while I agree with you that chevrolet is putting a lot of effort for their R&D, Isuzu doesn't.

      Delete
    14. Why not? The previous gen Colorado was based from the D-Max. This time, Chevy took the lead, but using Isuzu's platform. The D-Max and mu-X are the most aerodynamic in its class while others only focus on the looks. Btw, the Monterosport got 4 stars on ASEAN NCAP, while other global cars got worse scores.

      Delete
    15. This mu-X and its twin got 5 stars from ANCAP too. Though they have 4 more airbags than our local counterpart.

    6. i've never seen nor heard someone owning 2 cars of basically in the same category..like, if i have a montero, the next thing that goes in my mind is that i would love to have something better, an upgrade, like a cx9 or an explorer or grand santa fe (alterra used to be in the list but not anymore 'cuz i discovered that it was basically of the same category of montero, and then i was expecting something better from isuzu, but this mu-x replaced the alterra and i was very disappointed 'cuz its basically a rebadged trailblazer ) to fill up what's missing in my car..or something like the gt86..i think buying another pick-up based suv is almost moronic when you already have one..and i'm actually quite disappointed by montero and i can say its one hell of a boring car just like other pick-up based suvs (fortuner i.e)..you know, its refreshing if you have an suv and a car or a cuv ..and drive them alternately..probably someone knows what i'm trying to say here..about having a car or a cuv and an suv instead of having two pick-up based suvs and it just don't make any sense at all..

    7. Cany you please explain why you call this crap? Rather than saying don't buy this yada yada? Just because it doesn't have as much grunt as its competitors doesn't mean this sucks. Magiging best seller ba to sa ibang markets kung hindi nga maganda?

      Delete
    8. Best sellers? Anong markets yun? Baka naman isuzu trucks ibig mong sabihin?

Anyway, Isuzu sucks because of its weak low tech engine, crappy suspension, etc. There are lots of vehicles that are easier to maintain and can easily outlive an Isuzu.

      Delete
    9. Thailand, outselling the Trailblazer in Australia. Paki search na lang po. HIndi na lang po reliability ang reason ng maraming tao bakit nila napili yung mu-X. Andun na rin yung overall value. Low tech? How do you define even determine the level of technology in an engine? Sa horsepower at torque lang ba? How can you even say that this is hard to maintain? Even foreign reviewers say it has one of the best suspension set ups in its segment. Even better than its twin.

I really can't see the reason why many people hate the mu-X, let alone the brand.

      Delete
    10. How do you determine engine tech you ask? Let me give you an example: Mazda's Skyactiv engine vs Toyota's dual vvti, guess which one's the older tech engine.

      Delete
    11. You don't have to explain those as some work the same way, iba lang pangalan nila. I'm pertaining to the diesel engines on the same category. Ano ba ang low tech sa Isuzu? Kasi mababa ang output?

      Delete
    12. Are you serious? No, not all engines work the same way. Do you think a vtec engine works the same way as a vvti? Hell no!

Anyway, Isuzu's engine is low tech and it lacks cutting edge technology. It could at least have an idle start/stop instead of relying on low power figures to achieve lower fuel consumption.

      Delete
    13. Some nga eh. That's where Isuzu shines. No need for fancy tech to achieve something remarkable. This is a truck based car, obviously you can't have too much electronics in workhorses. Pag tumagal, sino kaya ang mas prone sa failure at maintenance? Walang Stop/Start system ang Montero, Fort, Trailblazer, would you brand them as low tech din?

      Delete
    14. That's the problem. Almost everything that's offered here is low tech. Kawawa ang pinoy. That's why people should stop patronizing 3rd world suvs. We deserve better.

      Delete
    15. That's given already. Halos lahat naman ng sasakyan pagdating sa atin downgraded na. Mabibilang lang sa kamay mga well equipped cars, minsan sobrang mahal na. Minsan nga kahit driver's side airbag lang or ABS tinatanggal pa nila.

Pero sa mga ganitong sasakyan, understood na humahabol pa lang sila sa global cars in terms of features and level of technology. Di naman din sila kumakalaban ng Santa Fe, CX-9, etc. I'm even surprised na for 1.358M may Stability and Traction control ka pa, eh sa iba kelangan mo bumili ng top of the line just to enjoy such features.

    5. Isuzu Motors has its origin in a 1916 diversification plan undertaken by the Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding and Engineering Company. The company, established after the Meiji Restoration to build heavy ships on Ishikawajima Island near Tokyo, hoped to insulate itself from cyclical downturns in the shipbuilding industry. Tokyo Ishikawajima initiated the venture as a partnership with the Tokyo Gas and Electric Industrial Company, which had the engineering expertise necessary to design vehicles. In fact, Tokyo Gas produced its first vehicle, the Type A truck, in 1918, using engines from Tokyo Ishikawajima. The partnership manufactured a variety of designs under license from the English firm Wolseley, including the model A9 car, which went into production in Japan in 1922. In 1929 the enterprise was incorporated separately as Ishikawajima Automobile Manufacturing, Ltd.

    6. In 1959 Isuzu introduced a new two-ton N-series truck called the Elf. This was followed in 1961 by an attempt to equip an Isuzu automobile with a small diesel engine. While economical and reliable, the diesel Bellel car was uncomely, noisy, and, ultimately, a commercial failure. Consumers clearly favored a more cosmopolitan, if less practical, car. In 1962 Isuzu opened a new factory at Fujisawa. With expanded production capacity, the company introduced the Bellett automobile in 1963, followed by the Florian model in 1967. The next year Isuzu rolled out the sporty two-door 117 Coupe, a luxury model resembling the Ford Mustang. In 1970 Isuzu introduced two new trucks, the medium-sized Forward (named for its forward control) and a 12-ton diesel model.

  40. Why is a troll bashing the "old" tech 4jk1-tc vgs? 136hp and a flat 320Nm torque are pretty good numbers for a "Euro-2" diesel engine. Bash as much as you like, the fact of the matter is, Philippines is still a Euro-2 country.

You should not gauge an engine based on hp and torque alone, also consider its geographical application. A friend's "Modern" BMW x5 3.0 diesel - this non "third world" thing churns out a "modern" 232hp and 520nm, started having engine problems with only 16k km in the odo because of our country's poor diesel quality.

Also, you should consider that "euro-4" engines need to be detuned to meet our country's fuel quality. Korean/ European diesel cars typically have high engine ratings because they are already using 3rd generation common rail tech, with 3rd generation Bosch CR supply pumps and injectors, but a jump in each common rail tech gen also requires an improvement in diesel quality. So, I think these engines need to be detuned for longevity concerns.
