Honda Cars Philippines Shows Off R&D with City 1.5 E CVT Special Edition

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI), Honda’s automobile business unit in the Philippines, announces the availability of the New City 1.5 E CVT Special Edition. The New City 1.5 E CVT Special Edition is equipped with new features exclusive to the Philippine market.

Over the years, the City nameplate has established itself as the best-selling vehicle in HCPI’s 13 product line-up. This continuously inspires the company to constantly innovate and develop its only manufactured vehicle to appeal to more customers.

Recently, HCPI Research Planning & Development Team, together with a representative from Honda R&D Co., Ltd. Japan, researched on the dynamic lifestyles and vehicle usage of Filipino consumers in the present setting. Findings show that Filipinos tend to look for a child-friendly vehicle that also protects occupants from the heat and airborne allergens. This led to the development of the New City 1.5 E CVT Special Edition.

Style-wise, the New City 1.5 E CVT Special Edition gets an exclusive, all-new Ruby Red Pearl color as a result from the recent study. The brightness of the Ruby Red Pearl paint exudes elegance while still complementing the sporty style of the fourth-generation City. The Special Edition variant is also available in Gold Brown Metallic, and Taffeta White exterior colors.

Unique to the New City 1.5 E CVT Special Edition is the application of UV Cut Glass windows for the front doors. The high performance UV absorbent coated glass, fused with core technologies, minimizes the penetration of UV rays and Infrared lights by approximately 99%, which is ideal for the Philippine tropical environment.

In the area of safety and convenience, the New City 1.5 E CVT Special Edition is equipped with a speed-sensing Auto Door Lock system that enables the vehicle to bolt automatically upon reaching a speed level of 15 km/h, and to intelligently unlock all doors when the shift lever is set to Park Mode (P).

In addition, the key fob of the Special Edition consists of a Panic Button. Long pressing the Panic Button enables the vehicle to emit a loud alarm through the horns, and to flash its headlights and park lights to call for immediate attention.

To further promote the health and wellness of passengers, each purchase of the New City 1.5 E CVT Special Edition comes with a free Sharp Plasmacluster with Ion Technology. Known for its air purifying technology, the plasmacluster reduces airborne allergens and microbes through increased number of positive and negative ions, helps remove unwanted odors, and moisturizes the skin when constantly used.

The New City 1.5 E CVT Special Edition will be available in Honda dealerships nationwide today, with a suggested retail price of P 819,000.

  1. some un informed drivers or car owners when stuck in traffic will shift to "P" instead of "N" (neutral). Great. your doors are good as open (unlocked). Nice thinking, Honda.

  2. and the UV cut glass?.. why on the front doors glass?.. It should be more useful on the windshield instead where more of the sun's heat is absorbed. Also, 99% of UV rays can be remedied by window tints anyway (and looks good too, plus the security it offers).. Nice one,Honda R&D chaps!

  3. How come my 2016 City VX+ which I bought a month ago is not equipped with Speed sensing Auto Door locks? Honda Phil should give 2016 City consumers a software upgrade!

  5. Mechanically speaking, you don't engage you P (parking pawl) if you're stuck in traffic, you just place it on Neutral and engage your hand brakes. Any unintentional movement like if someone bumps you from behind or you're in a slope, this will put undue strain on your transmission and may eventually break. Parking pawl is designed to be used if you intend to turn off your engine combined with hand brakes engaged. Besides, it's only a step away to D or R if you're stuck just in traffic.

  6. FYI, the shift to P to unlock is very convenient. And I fully agree that shifting to P means you are intending to turn off your engine.

If you insist on shifting to P when stuck in traffic, then there is also this wonderful feature called central locking that you can use. You can find it near the window controls.

  7. Got a Taffy White Special edition and I like the speed sensing sensor and P unlock. I don't use P on traffic, I instead use N +handbrake.

    Observation:
The P unlock is very useful when you reach your destination. It is soo convenient.
The speed sensing lock are for those people like me who are lazy to use the Central locking, now my 6year old son is safe and my growing 1 year old daughter.
UV Cut glass - I use Black chrome with 70% heat rejection from 3M. The aircon is colder and when I left my car for three or four hours under the sun it is not hot compared to the other cars I am in too. Also the front door window is colder to touch compared to rear window and windshield.

Lastly- the ionizer rocks. It eliminated the new car smell which is actually a deadly VOC smell from plastic, rubber and adhesive they used in the interior.
