Toyota Launches All-New 2016 Innova in Indonesia (w/ Video)

Toyota revealed the final piece of the IMV puzzle with the Indonesian launch of the all-new 2016 Innova. And like the Hilux and the Fortuner which were revealed before it, it successfully levels up the game in every aspect imaginable from design to drivetrain to sophistication. This could very well be the Filipino family’s next default choice.

Designed under the tagline, “The Legend Reborn”, the all-new Innova is developed with a completely new platform that’s far removed from the first-generation model. It starts out with a more sophisticated exterior that’s bolder and athletic than before. It takes on the Toyota family look with its “Keen Look and Under Priority” stance. The front-end is dominated with a large grille that goes all the way to the bumper flanked by available LED headlights. 16-inch wheels and tires are now standard equipment with the highest grade model (Q) getting 17’s. Higher trim models also have side mirror turn signal repeaters with puddle lamps while the range-topper gets a soft closing rear hatch (Smart Close Back Door).

Inside, the Innova gets an interior that’s much closer to a passenger car than a commercial vehicle. Keeping its 8-seater capacity (now with headrests for all occupants), the Innova’s cockpit is highly reminiscent of the Hilux and Fortuner with its asymmetrical design. Available features include a high-resolution LCD display sandwiched between the LED-backlit gauges, a four-spoke steering wheel with multi-function controls, one-touch power windows for all, a touchscreen audio system with smartphone mirroring, automatic climate control, Bluetooth with voice command, and even interior ambient lighting. Other notable comfort features of the new Innova include front seat back trays, one-touch tumble second row, and a keyless entry system with push button engine start/stop.

Measuring in at 4,735 x 1,830 x 1,795 (L x W x H, in mm), the Innova keeps almost the same dimensions as the current model. However, it gets an entirely new drivetrain for more power and refinement on the road. Gasoline engine variants get a 2.0-liter Dual VVT-i engine (1TR-FE) generating a healthy 139 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 183 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. For the diesel-fed variants, it gets the same 2GD-FTV engine found in the Hilux. The 2.4-liter engine outs 149 horsepower at 3,400 rpm and 343 Nm of torque at 1,200 to 2,800 rpm. Manual transmission models get five forward ratios while automatic have the privilege of a 6-speed automatic with sequential shift override.

True to its role as a family vehicle, the all-new Toyota Innova is standard (at least in Indonesia) with three airbags with higher trim models getting seven airbags. ABS with EBD is now standard while Hill Assist Control and Vehicle Stability Control are available features on the highest trim. ISOFIX child seat anchors are now standard.

The all-new Toyota Innova is expected to land in the Philippines sometime early to mid 2016.

  1. As usual, toyota ph will under-spec this, probably only has dual airbags, no Traction control or esp. no auto closing rear door, refelective headlights, and another crappy touchscreen which is 3rd party outsourced, and overprice this vehicle.

    1. You have to understand that they will be selling this for 5 years straight and the taxes that come across when the units are shipped.

    2. they will assemble the units in the Philippines

    3. no I dont understand, why can ford do it? they can sell their cars with same specs as other countries? sure they maybe more expensive, but at least they dont under-spec their TOTL cars

    4. I understand why. So that Toyota gets more profit out of it. They are greedy and can get away with it because the brand is so well established here. With Ford's it's their only way to pull customers away from Toyota.

    5. couldn't agree more, took the words out of my mouth.
and the fact that they will assemble the units in here (as what Chigga said)
still there's no reason they will overprice and under-spec this vehicle again.

    6. Just buy Ford! And then goodluck! He he he!

    7. It's not TOYOTA Philippines who's greedy, it's METROBANK... The people behind metrobank are the greedy ones.

    9. What makes Metrobank worse than the other banks when it comes to bank loans?

    10. I like how people can easily get away with defamatory remarks on the internet. Kung sa actual, baka nasampahan na yan ng kaso.

    11. And with 2.8 ltr Diesel engine plus all the amenities, the all new Innova is worth its salt! You will really love it!

  2. Let's hope this will be the final nail on the Crosswind's coffin.

    1. why? why do you have a beef with the crosswind? cant you just not buy?

      Delete
    2. It's thanks to shitty old cars like the crosswind that manufacturers doesn't respect the Philippine car buyers. They think we're a bunch of idiots (partially true) that would buy any car because its loaded with lots of toys but safety features such as ABS, airbags and crumple zones are compromised. Kaya ngayon, ang toyota kahit sa TOTL models dalawa lang airbag na nilalagay.

    3. The problem with Pinoy are they are still buying the jurassic Crosswind despite of all its problems and USOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Delete
    4. Price, reliability, ease of maintenance, cost of maintenance and realibilty are the factors why Juan still buys the Crosswind

    5. ^
Typical mentality ng buyers nitong crosswind. Selfish reasons.

      Delete
    7. safety ng family? Here's from 2013 stats:

79% - Road crash fatalities caused by driver error
11% - Road crash fatalities caused by defective vehicles

Most of these are cars with airbags/ABS and drivers with lack of driving skills. Meaning crosswinds are not safe around these drivers that always make mistakes with high end cars.

    8. Preferring maintenance and fuel costs is not being selfish, its being practical. You want to protect your family while you drive? then drive defensively. And why put so much beef with the crosswind? many still put up with their old corollas or 1st to 2nd gen pajeros and no one seems to mind.

      Delete
    9. Yan na lang lagi defense. "Practical" kuno. It's the most selfish reason I've ever heard. Papano kung defensive ka mag drive pero ang iba naman aggressive tapos sila ang babangga sa iyo? Besides, its not all about safety, how about the pollution that shitty engine produces? Your argument that some people are driving old corollas and pajeros are irrelevant here since those people probably cannot afford new vehicles and may have no choice but to drive them. The issue here is that some idiots would still deliberately buy brand-new crosswinds in 2015. So here's me wishing that the Innova would attract these buyers and hopefully end the crosswind's life for good.

    10. Still don't get it don't you? Di nga maka afford eh.

      Delete
    11. Di maka afford? Are you joking? Do you know how freakin' expensive the crosswind is, especially the sportivo model? It's expensive in a sense that what you're getting is a vehicle whose age is more than a decade old, without any airbags or safety features whatsoever and to top it off, the engine is not up to modern standards.

  3. I hope the Philippine version comes complete with all amenities and features.

    1. No way. As usual it will get the features little by little each year so that people keep buying the newer one.

  4. Wow. Looks like the Innova will be getting a significant share from the SUV market whose prices are becoming too expensive or out of the value proposition

    ReplyDelete

    1. It's not an SUV. Innova is an MPV or simply a van. The one that is going to dominate the SUV will be the mu-X. It's the cheapest for now in that category. In fact, if Toyota will be too ambitious with the Innova's price, the mu-X could even threaten Innova's dominance in the MPV segment .

      Delete
    2. From a consumer point of view, a 7 seater MPV or AUv or SUV are the same. Sa pricing at features na lang magkakatalo.

      Delete
    3. I respect that. If you don't care what you're buying.
Seats and prices doesn't define a car. Features and platforms do.
A little knowledge of different car categories wouldn't hurt.

    4. I agree, with sales projection at around 2,500 units per month, the market share of soft SUV's like CRV, HRV, X-trail, Forester, Santa Fe and Tucson will be eaten up! Even the market share of Everest and Montero are also at risk! Believe me!

      Delete
    5. I don't think so. Mu-x is the real killer with it's pricing. Expect a 100-200k increase among the Innova variants. Also bare like the Hilux we got.

      Delete
    6. Based on how Toyota is increasing prices, I would not be surprised if the TOTL Innova will be priced same as the MU-X LSA Auto.

      Delete
    7. LOL, no educated car buyer would get this 3rd-world AUV over a 1st-world SUV/CUV for the same price. Only uneducated gaya-gaya lemmings would make this their choice.

  5. The gaping mouth at the front and the fangs at the tail light are becoming all too common. When the first Innova came out, the design set the standard for the segment. Not this time. It's tacky. It's uninspiring. It's boring. This should be an opening for other car makers to push out Inoova from its pedestal.

    3. I find it hilarious that some idiot claims that the old innova is the benchmark for the design in its segment. Mababaw kaligayahan ko eh. Hahaha.

    4. Bring it on! Innova has already killed the competition. Tell me who are the competitors of Innova? Crooswind? Jurassic na mausok pa napakatagtag pa! Adventure? Ano yun?

    1. Admit it Toyota cars are very good cars! Otherwise people will not patronize it! There are a lot of satisfied Innova buyers! As a matter of fact after 5 to 6 years when they replace their old innova's they again buy another innova!

    2. Lol after 5-6 years and they buy another Innova? Barely anything new unless they buy this one hahaha.

  7. Other market got the 360nm torque diesel for the auto tranny.

  8. ^Lets re-evaluate this vehicle once it gets offered in PH market. Right now what is being offered (as written in this article) looks good on paper. And just like the Fortuner, this might be sold in PH much later due to excess inventory of old stocks.

  9. Ayan, ang ganda naman ng next MPV ng Toyota! Kaya ngayon palang mag ipon-ipon na kayo! Or ibenta mo na ang old Innova mo, or whatever car you have! Masaya na naman ang mga TFC, hahaha!

  10. Ang tanong na lang eh gaano kaya katagal ang waiting time for a new unit?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Parang hilux lang yan. i doubt it na maglalabas sila ng variant coming with LED projector headlights. Then siguro there is a high probability na specs in other country will noe be the same as ours.
