AC Motors Targets 10 Percent Market Share by 2025


Despite the economic challenges brought on by the on-going pandemic, AC Motors, an Ayala company remains bullish on the Philippine automotive industry.
Antonio “Toti” Zara, President of AC Motors’ automotive business unit says that they are targeting a 10 percent market share by 2025 across its portfolio of brands: Honda, Isuzu, Kia, Volkswagen, and Maxus. 

“In our 30 years, we have gathered five of the best automotive brands from all over the world to offer Filipinos wherever in the country,” said Mr. Zara. “We acknowledge that the local market still needs to recover from the effects of an ongoing pandemic. But history has shown the resilience of our automotive market, time and again, through all manner of crises, we are confident that this time will be no different.”

This would be enough for AC Motors to secure a Top Five spot in the local industry, overtaking Hyundai, Suzuki, and Ford based on full-year 2019 market share.

In order to achieve that, AC Motors will be busy in the next few years. 

Mr. Zara has confirmed that they will unveil six all-new models from the three brands that they distribute exclusively in the Philippines: Maxus, Kia, and Volkswagen. Although AC Motors hasn’t revealed what these vehicles, two of the six are already being teased on social media: the Maxus D60 7-seater SUV and the refreshed  Volkswagen Santana sub-compact sedan. The rest could be the all-new Sorento and Carnival for Kia, and perhaps the Teramont and T-Cross for Volkswagen.

In addition, AC Motors applied fundamental changes and innovations to adapt to the new normal of business. Such changes and innovations made them launch a one-stop-shop: the AC Motors website. Regardless, they will continue to open six dealerships across their five auto brands in the next 12 months, in addition to franchised appointments.

AC Motors began as Ayala Automotive Holdings Corporation, through which Ayala helped bring in the Honda brand and launched the Philippines’ first Honda dealership in 1991. It did the same in 1996 with the Isuzu brand. Afterwards, in a span of less than 6 years, from 2013 to 2019, AC Motors acquired exclusive distributorships for three more world-renowned brands, starting with the German Volkswagen brand in 2013, the Korean Kia brand in January 2019, and finally, the British Maxus brand of LCVs in June 2019.
