UPDATED: Ford Recalling 1.2 Million Explorers for Diminished Steering Control
UPDATE: This article is updated with an official statement from Ford Philippines (6/16).
Ford is recalling 1.2 million Explorer SUVs from 2011 to 2017 model years because of an issue that diminishes steering control. In turn, this makes them hard to steer and increases the risk of a crash.

Ford Needs to Stop Sending Mixed Signals to Explorer Owners - US-Based Auto Safety Group
In a letter addressed to Ford Motor Company CEO Jim Hackett, the US-based Center for Auto Safety is renewing its request for Ford to conduct a full recall of 1.3-million 2011-2017 Explorers because of suspected carbon monoxide leaks. This is the organization’s second call to action, the first being in October 2017 after Ford “failed to take seriously the thousands of consumer complaints which had been filed with NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), Ford, and the Center for Auto Safety.”

Ford Offers to Fix 2011-2017 Explorers with Exhaust Leaks
Following the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)’s decision to upgrade an investigation into potential excessive exhaust or carbon monoxide leaks in the 2011-2017 Ford Explorer, Ford Motor Company has made the decision to offer free repairs to more than 1.4 million affected units in the North American market.

UPDATED: 2011-2017 Ford Explorer Probed for Exhaust Odors, Excessive Carbon Monoxide - Report
UPDATE: Ford is now offering to fix the 2011-17 Explorers for free (10/14).
Reuters via Automotive News reports that the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or NHTSA is now upgrading and expanding a probe into 1.33 million 2011-2017 Ford Explorer SUVs over reports of “exhaust odors in vehicle compartments and exposure to carbon monoxide that may be linked to crashes and injuries.”
