UPDATED: Subaru BRZ PHL Specs Leaked

With the Toyota 86 officially launching next week, Motor Image Pilipinas has already begun pre-selling their version of the acclaimed rear-wheel drive sports car. So, how much is the BRZ worth in Philippine Pesos? Well, if you're expecting a hefty discount versus the 86, you'll be disappointed. The Subaru BRZ is currently pre-selling for P 2,200,000 with deliveries starting 4th quarter of 2012.

However, the differentiating factor between the BRZ and its 86 cousin is the specs. The BRZ is expected to be better loaded, if just a tad. Preliminary specs include:

  • HID headlights with auto-leveling function
  • LED daytime running lights
  • LED brake lights
  • Front/rear fog lights
  • Dual exhaust
  • Rear spoiler
  • 17-inch alloy wheels
  • Three-spoke leather steering wheel with red stitching
  • Multi-information display instrument cluster with shift-up indicator
  • Paddle shifters
  • In-dash audio system with CD/MP3/USB/Aux with Bluetooth with 6 speakers
  • GPS navigation system
  • Dual zone climate control
  • Alcantara leather seats with front sport buckets
Like the Toyota 86, the Subaru BRZ is powered by the same D-4S Boxer engine so the power outputs will be close to identical (200 hp @ 7,000 rpm and 205 Nm @ 6,600 rpm). The BRZ will also benefit from the Subaru-specific Sport suspension package.

The safety features are of the usual array including: vented disc brakes with ABS, EBD and VSC, ring-shaped reinforced impact absorbing body, and 6 airbags.

According to sources within Motor Image Pilipinas, the BRZ will only be available as a 6-speed automatic (perhaps as a launch version) and will be available in 6 colors including the Subaru-specific WR Blue Pearl and Satin White Pearl. And it will only be available with the aero kit as standard.

UPDATE: Vernon Sarne of Top Gear Philippines reveals that the Subaru BRZ will indeed be sold in two variants...a manual and an automatic. As mentioned in his story, Motor Image Pilipinas, already has 22 reservations for the rear-wheel drive sports car. Other than that, he has confirmed that the BRZ will be available with the aero kit which should make it essentially the same as the Toyota 86. Other than that, Mr. Sarne has said that the BRZ will be priced "as competitively as the 86". It seems the P 2.2-million price tag is almost a reality. After all, what is P 250,000 among corporate cousins?

All the specs above are exactly the same as that on the Toyota version except for the better audio/info/GPS system and leather seats. Therefore paying P250K+ more for the 6-starred emblem is silly considering you can buy those emblems online and easily replace those on the Toyota if one is so inclined. 250K can also get you waaay better audio/GPS/ICE and still have some cash left.

  3. Word is, TMP will be able to address stock issues of the 86 in 2013, but the price might go up by 10%. Then there are rumors that Hyundai will intro the all-new GC next yr, possibly with a higher price than the current model. With the the BRZ at P2.2M, presumably for the AT variant, it's apparent that Subaru wants to keep itself as a niche brand. It's likely to be the most expensive 2.0 liter sports coupe in the market, but the catch is, there is no technological rationale for it. I guess 22 die-hard fans couldn't care less.
