Mazda PH Launches First-Ever PHEV: 2027 Mazda CX-80 e-Skyactiv PHEV For P 4.18M (w/ Specs)

Mazda Philippines introduces its first-ever plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) model, the Mazda CX-80. Crafted with precision and rooted in Japanese design, the CX-80 is a bold expression of comfort, versatility, and progressive engineering.

Designed out of consideration for easy maneuvering in daily driving and parking situations, yet large enough to accommodate up to seven occupants in comfort, the Mazda CX-80 is 4,995 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, 1,710 mm high, and has a 3,120 mm wheelbase.

At the front, the imposing face and long hood highlight the CX-80’s front-engine, rear-wheel drive architecture. To the side, the extended side windows and chrome moldings emphasize the presence of a third-row. The integrated roof rail further reinforces its length without taking away its refined and dignified appearance, while 20-inch high-gloss black wheels softens the contrast between the paint and machined metal surfaces. Finally, at the back, the absence of the exhaust garnish is deliberate for a cleaner, more elegant experience.

Melting Copper Metallic makes its debut on the CX-80. This new Takuminuri color suggests a light sandblasted copper surface that has been melted and hardened again. Other exterior colors are Soul Red Crystal, Machine Gray, Rhodium White, and Jet Black Mica.

Inside, the CX-80 features a mix of premium material such as Nappa leather and chrome detailing. The choice between a black interior and a tan interior also expresses the aesthetic beauty of tone.

The CX-80 is fully equipped with the driver’s cockpit area featuring three main instrument displays: a full 12.3-inch TFT LCD driver’s instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment center display and a large window Active Driving Display. Meanwhile, passengers have elevated comfort with the ultra-large panoramic sunroof (950 mm wide by 1,021 mm long), three-zone climate control with air conditioning vents that span to the third row, and integral rear door sunshades. Equipped with a 12-speaker Bose sound system, the CX-80 delivers high-quality audio.

The Mazda CX-80 is available in a choice of two second-row seating configurations: a three-person bench seat—giving a seven-seat capacity, or a two-person captain’s seat with a middle console—for a six-seat layout.

Regardless, the second-row bench has both a sliding range of 120 mm and a fully variable seat recline range of between 15 to 33 degrees. Second row shoulder room is 1,476 mm, and the second-row headroom is 996 mm. The third-row seating has been designed to accommodate occupants up to 1.70 m in height. Access to the third-row seating is made comfortable by a large door opening height, a second row one-touch walk-in function, a wide, flat step floor, and a large hand grip built into the side trim recess.

With the third-row seats in place, load space capacity including under-floor storage is 258 liters. This rises to 687 liters with the third-row folded flat, 1,221 liters with the second-row folded flat, and 1,971 liters to the ceiling. The CX-80 is also equipped with a hands-free powered tailgate.

Making its debut in the Philippines is Mazda’s PHEV powertrain: e-Skyactiv PHEV. This combines a 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G four-cylinder direct injection gasoline engine with a powerful electric motor and a 17.8 kWh high-capacity Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) lithium-ion battery.

The combustion engine itself develops a maximum power output of 192 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 261 Nm of torque. The electric motor delivers 175 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque from zero rpm. This combination of engine and motor delivers a total system output of 327 PS and 500 Nm of torque. Most notably when running on electric motor power alone, the PHEV offers up to 65 km of WLTP EV range.

The high-capacity lithium-ion battery can be charged seamlessly during driving using energy recovered during braking. A separate Charge mode also prioritizes charging the battery to a level set by the user, and is helpful in situations such as prior to using EV mode. At home or at the office, the CX-80’s battery can be plugged in and charged in 2.5 hours using a 7.2 kW AC charger, or less than 7 hours using a 3.5 kW portable charger via a conventional 220-volt non-grounded outlet.

The CX-80 utilizes the Large Architecture Platform enabling it to optimally place the large-capacity battery pack for the PHEV under the floor to realize a low center of gravity and to provide agile vehicle dynamics.

The front double wishbone suspension system and rear multi-link set-up are engineered to achieve a well-balanced, neutral handling stability only possible with a longitudinally mounted engine and rear-wheel drive system, providing both an engaging driving and a comfortable ride for all occupants. Mazda’s unique Kinematic Posture Control (KPC) technology also takes advantage of the CX-80’s suspension design to smooth out body movement and stabilize cornering even at high speeds.

Employing the i-Activ AWD, an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch rear-wheel biased AWD system, provides high traction performance with ideal handling characteristics. In addition to reliable off-road capability, this AWD system helps the CX-80 achieve natural vehicle movement that delivers both straight-line stability on highways and intuitive handling on winding roads. The AWD system also works with the friction braking system to optimize regeneration distribution between the front and rear wheels, further increasing the amount of energy recovered from the tires.

Based on Mazda's safety philosophy, ‘Mazda Proactive Safety,’ the CX-80 offers a comfortable driving environment with outstanding visibility. It’s comprehensive range of advanced i-Activsense driver assistance systems ensure active safety at the highest level and has resulted in a Euro NCAP 5-star safety rating. In addition, the vehicle was recognized by Euro NCAP as Best in Class Large SUV, a distinction that highlights Mazda’s advanced safety engineering.

This extends to the PHEV system’s high-voltage components and battery pack which are protected from collision impact by the strength and energy absorbing characteristics of the chassis and body. The battery housing is made of high-strength aluminum material that is highly resistant to cracking. The PHEV system also automatically shuts off the high-voltage battery and discharges its energy when a collision is detected.

The all-new Mazda CX-80 comes in three variants at the following prices with customer deliveries to start by December 2026:
