Physics-Defying Tesla Roadster 2 Is Finally Unveiled

Tesla definitely exceeded everyone’s expectations. Elon Musk and Co. finally revealed the upcoming second-generation Tesla Roadster, the first version of which redefined what an EV is and put the brand on the automotive map. The new Roadster flew and flipped, showing that this could be the start of flying cars.

The new Roadster is very subjective in terms of exterior design. It went against the leaks before of a sleek and curvy cosmetic and instead, we get a smaller take on the Cybertruck aesthetic. Flat panels, straight lines, aero wheels, butterfly wing doors—it looks like it was launched just after the Countach from the mid-70s.

Despite the retro take, the Roadster is fitted with the most advanced tech with bits taken from the SpaceX program. It has “hidden” headlights, full width taillight, active aero, a multi-mode suction system, and cold-gas thrusters.

Even the paint is space-grade. It’s finished in Ano White that has UV and cryogenic protection that’s used in space vehicles. It also has electrostatic dissipation and corrosion resistance that protects the rockets during pre-launch and recovery. The glass is also tinted gold to mimic the copper coating that gives spacesuits their iconic appearance. There are also subtle titanium accents all over.

The body’s composition was aimed towards light rigidness. They utilized magnesium, titanium, and carbon fiber to make for a lightweight vehicle that can handle the hanging routines and rotational stunts from the thrusts.

Aesthetics for the cabin is a lot different from its exterior. It’s truly a modern cockpit with a ‘yoke’ instead of a re-shaped steering wheel. It has what Tesla calls “Ultrawhite” interior accented with grey microsuede detailing and bolsters. There’s also a center touchscreen on the dashboard accompanied by smaller “forward displays.”

The biggest draw of the all-new Roadster is its “flying” capability. It has bits derived from SpaceX that allows it to do some pretty unique things. There are cold-gas thrusters with electric actuators for precise propulsion. It allows the Roadster to jump and flip at will.

It also has a multi-mode suction system and ground sealing system that increases downforce even at upside down situations. There are also powered fans and active wings that maximize traction for increased cornering ability. It also has a special Track Mode that lowers the car and “transforms” the suspension according to the brand.

The second-generation Tesla Roadster will be available in the Philippines and is already up on their website for reservation. The Performance trim features active aero and multi-mode suction system that allows the car to maintain an upside-down position. It has a P 350,000 initial deposit, with P 3,150,000 due after 10 days.

Next is the Thrust variant that will be a limited release. It has additional cold-gas thrusters in the rear that will help the car propel from 0 to 100 km/h in under 1 second. It has the same initial deposit but a higher due after 10 days priced at P 17,150,000.

Last is the Rocket trim which is by invite only. This is a one-seater that adds cold-gas thrusters at the perimeter of the car that will support forward and upward acceleration, as well as lateral rotational movement as seen on the launch demo. There’s no price indicated for this top-of-the-line variant.

The Tesla Roadster will begin production in 2028. No word when deliveries will start.
