Golf tournaments don’t make the automotive news pages, but the 2026 Bogey Golf Tournament is the exception. With a name like that, you can already tell that the point of this tournament is to have fun, and that’s exactly what the founders and organizers envisioned. Speaking of which, the Bogey Golf Tournament is the brainchild of Overland Kings founder Joel Pedro, Top Gear Philippines publisher Carlo Chungungco, and industry veteran and founder of A&A Consulting, Spencer Yu.
These three organizers describe it best as an idea born out of a conversation after a round of golf that eventually bore fruit in the form of the tournament. Bogey Golf was organized as a way to give back to the automotive industry, which is why top executives from brands like Isuzu, Lexus, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, MG, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Suzuki, and Toyota were part of the exclusive group of just 34 players. The tournament took place in the highly prestigious Sta. Elena Golf Club in Cabuyao, Laguna. In its purest form, Bogey Golf was a way to allow everyone from the industry to just enjoy each other’s company and build connections.
I was lucky enough to participate in the event, and having all these important decision-makers from the local automotive industry in one tournament was hard to imagine, let alone make a reality. Nonetheless, the organizers pulled it off, and what ensued throughout that hot afternoon was a tournament where everybody imbibed the tournament tagline of “Swing Hard, Laugh Harder.” For such a small event, Bogey Golf was able to get sponsorships from Empire Sports, Shell Pilipinas, 24 Chicken, Bubu Food & Retail Concepts Inc., Sarsa Manila, and the Lamoiyan Corporation.
Like any real tournament, Bogey Golf 2026 also had its own special awards, programs, and mini-games won by those who were skilled enough to play their best that day:
- Overall Champion: Paul Tanchi
- Gentlemen’s Division Champion: Jake Soriano
- Gentlemen’s Division 1st Runner-Up: Raffy David
- Gentlemen’s Division 2nd Runner-Up: Justin Buzzhype Santos
- Ladies Division Champion: Carolyn T. Pedro
- Ladies Division 1st Runner-Up: Julia Ira Jornada
- Nearest to the Line (Hole No. 20): Mikio Tsukui
- Nearest to the Pin (Hole No. 7): Justine Buzzhype Santos
Moving forward, the organizers were optimistic enough to say that there will be future installments of the Bogey Golf Tournament in the spirit of “reinforcing a unified automotive community dedicated to moving the industry forward together.”
