The Honda Civic Type R Just Got 2027 Upgrades Which The Philippines Will Never Get

Did Honda Cars Philippines prematurely kill the FL5 Civic Type R? It may be the case as Honda’s venerable hot hatch just got an update for 2027 giving it sharper styling and even sharper handling.

To recall, Honda opted to send the FL5 Civic Type R to an early grave to give space to the re-born Prelude sports coupe. Maligned by Filipino car enthusiasts for its lack of straight-line pace and exorbitant price tag, it so far hasn’t generated the sort of following the hot hatch had.

That brings us to the 2027 Civic Type R which gets dynamic enhancements in the form of optimized suspension damping (in +R mode) to improve road-following performance, reduced bouncing and impact harshness. Moreover, the Rev Match system now delivers faster engine response for smoother downshifts. Brake feel has also been improved by adding a yoke spring to the brake pedal to suppress play in the link, providing a more direct feel.

The Civic Type R also gets function-first aesthetic improvements. It features a new front fascia with a deeper front splitter for increased downforce and a larger grille opening for increased engine cooling. The engine cover has also been redesigned.

Of course, the 2027 update also improves the Civic Type R’s overall comfort and craftsmanship. Heated seats are available for the first time which also necessitated the addition of perforations to the red suede seats. There are also new black surrounds to the diamond-pattern trim panel as well as black air vent knobs and climate control knobs.

Ultrasuede material has also been applied to the upper instrument panel and upper doors reducing glare and reflections on the windshield. Meanwhile, the Type R's iconic aluminum shift knob, as well as its interior door handles and console trim, now feature a racier dark grey finish.

The 2027 Civic Type R also gains Google built-in—a first for the model—as well as enhancements to its Honda Sensing suite with the Collision Mitigation Braking System now detecting motorcycles and bicycles. The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is has improved braking and acceleration response and the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) gains improved control over road camber and other disturbances for smoother operation.
