The confirmation of the Toyota GR86 OMR for 2027 may have made the headlines at the finale of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup, but a second major announcement was also made at the press con: the establishment of Rookie Racing Garage Manila.
“Rookie Racing or RR was founded in Japan through the vision of Morizo, better known as Akio Toyoda. Guided by the belief that motorsports make both cars and people better, Rookie Racing uses the racetrack as a rolling laboratory where vehicles are continuously tested, challenged, and improved,” said Toyota Motor Philippines president Masando Hashimoto.
“As Rookie Racing expands its activities across Asia, we are honored that the Philippines can be part of that vision. Through Rookie Racing Garage Manila, we hope to cultivate a community that embodies the same spirit of passion, family, and continuous growth,” continued Hashimoto.
The original Rookie Racing Garage, located at Fuji Motorsports Forest near the Fuji International Speedway, is a place where the public can take a closer look at active race cars being maintained.
Since then, the Rookie Racing Garage concept has expanded out of Japan with the first overseas hub being opened in Taiwan at GR Garage Linkou in 2025. It serves as a primary community space for Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) culture and motorsports fans with memorabilia, merchandise, and more being made available.
Despite Taiwan having limited exposure to motorsports, in a span of about a year, over 64,260 people have visited the Rookie Racing Garage and GR Garage Linkou.
It’s this success that Toyota Motor Philippines aims to replicate with its very own Rookie Racing Garage Manila.
So far, no details have been given but if it emulates the Rookie Racing Garage concept in Taiwan, expect Rookie Racing Garage Manila to feature a space dedicated to customized modifications, car displays, and of course, a space for both GR Parts and a selection of aftermarket products.
The space could also serve as a place where GR owners can avail of upgrade services covering exterior styling and performance enhancements—both OEM and from well-known brands. It’ll also be home to experienced technicians that provide professional consultation and tuning.
“Rookie Racing Garage Manila is a place where better cars, better people, and stronger communities can grow through a shared passion for cars. It is where passion becomes purpose, friendships become community, and vision becomes reality,” concludes Hashimoto.
