BYD Philippines and its distributor, ACMobility have confirmed that local BYD Shark 6 DMO units are affected by a safety recall surrounding its spare tire lifter assembly.
Due to a manufacturing defect, the spare wheel lifter may have been incorrectly positioned. This may cause the support cable to wear and fracture resulting in the spare wheel detaching from the vehicle while driving. If the spare wheel detaches from the vehicle while driving, it could increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to other road users, bystanders and/or damage to property.
ACMobility cautions that for owners who have previously removed and reattached their spare tire, it’s recommended to remove the spare tire from its hub for now. Instructions for removing the spare tire can be found in the Shark 6 DMO owner’s manual.
For owners who haven’t removed their spare tire, no action is needed at this time.
As part of its fix, BYD will roll out an updated part. No time line was given, but a BYD dealer representative will reach out once the said part becomes available. After that, the authorized BYD dealer will replace the spare tire lifter assembly with an updated design, free of charge.
For more information, BYD Shark 6 DMO owners are encouraged to contact their preferred BYD dealership or the BYD Customer Care at +63 2 7758 1888, available Monday to Friday 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM or e-mail customer.care [at] bydcarsphilippines.com for afterhours inquiries.
