Akio "Morizo" Toyoda Is Coming To The Philippines In August

Akio Toyoda is coming to the Philippines. This was seemingly confirmed in a Facebook post on Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines (check the post in question below).

The photo post reads, “Morizo is coming.” While the caption goes, “The Master Driver who pushed the limits on every track of life! Join us this August 2023 as we welcome a visionary who shaped Toyota’s motorsports legacy!”

Morizo (full name Morizo Kinoshita) is the pseudonym of former Toyota Motor Corporation president (and current chairman) Akio Toyoda. It’s the name he takes on whenever he’s behind the wheel. As such, he has participated at events including the 24 Hours Nürburgring race employing the pseudonym.

As an avid car enthusiast himself, Toyoda also approved projects including the GR Yaris—a car that he himself helped developed.

Toyoda will likely grace the 35th anniversary celebration of Toyota Motor Philippines as well as a planned Gazoo Racing Festival (GR Fest) on August 23.

More details on any activity to follow.

  2. I wonder what does Morizo have to say regarding BEVs when he comes...

    1. In English only:

I HONESTLY don't think Morizo (aka Akio Toyoda) could mind about so-called "BEVs" when he will come to the Philippines in August this year, as what I mentioned before that cars with no or less or limited use of fossil fuel (particularly electric cars) are deeply alien to most Southeast Asian nations like Thailand (also Middle East and all of Africa with the exception of "Israel") so therefore he is coming to the Philippine islands only for emphasising Toyota's INVINCIBLE popularity in the Philippine market — given the reasons why other car manufacturers (half of them are Japanese and either already swallowed or aren't into Toyota's umbrella like Nissan) in the Philippines (as well as Thailand) tried to copy Toyota's successes there but rather fail.

Which is the same thing why Nissan should've abandoned its (Nissan's) partnership with Renault, which started in 1999, in exchange for teaming (Nissan) up with Toyota in turn. Just as how Toyota did the same way with Mazda — Toyota owns a 5 percent stake in Mazda — but while both carmakers refuse to share each others' components, Toyota briefly sold a rebadged Mazda2 exclusively to the North American market and on paper that Toyota-badged Mazda was practically nothing but a "Made in Mexico" Mazda2 with a funny-looking face rebuilt exclusively for Toyota. (Of course once Nissan and Mitsubishi left Renault's orbit then Toyota would rather repeat that idea by rebadging a Nissan Almera/Versa that is also Mexican-made and if they do that the Toyota would do more than Nissan...)

  3. Maybe Akio Toyoda can surprise his fans by bringing in the GR Corolla Morizo Edition when he comes.

  4. He previously raced a "Hydrogen-powered" Yaris (Vios) saloon/sedan in Thailand circa last year, since the GR Corolla you mentioned is only available as a five-door hatchback, then in turn with that Toyota model impossible to be marketed officially in the Philippines means Morizo could rather bring the Yaris saloon/sedan (aka Vios) since that's the kind of product Toyota in Southeast Asia strongly and deeply prefers. (The only Corolla that is currently selling in the Southeast Asian market is only available as a four-door saloon/sedan and its only available as a "hybrid" however.)

Especially, while Toyota maybe already committed to emphasise and maintain its current motorsport (motorsports in U.S./Canadian terms) activities, it seems as many of Toyota's properties like Mazda, Subaru, Suzuki and Isuzu are deeply small (in size) while they have slow-selling products (save for the D-Max pickup/ute (Australia/New Zealand)/bakkie (South Africa aka Elon Musk's territory) in Thailand for example) perhaps I should rather say that before that Renault (French carmaker) should have just sell off Nissan and Mitsubishi to Toyota and have the latter instead capitalise on Nissan (formerly known as Datsun) since Nissan is a large-scale car manufacturer and it (Nissan) also has a likely motorsport activity (but majority of those are only seen in Japan since Nissan has more sales there than in Southeast Asia) compared to the others that are now Toyota's properties as said above. (Especially imagine if the Almera of Nissan were sold as a Toyota then having Toyota to reverse engineer the Almera and other Nissan products means Toyota-engineered Nissan cars would do better than Nissans being engineered by Nissan themselves...)
