Skyway Operator Apologizes For Flood Mess; Points Blame To Activities Outside Their Control

Skyway O&M Corporation, the operator of the Skyway has apologized for the heavy flooding experienced by motorists using the “Skyway At Grade.” Caused by continuous moderate to, at times, heavy rains, it caused the areas surrounding Bicutan in Parañaque City to become impassable to motorists.

Despite the apology, San Miguel Corporation, the parent company of Skyway O&M Corporation pointed the blame due to a drainage system problem outside of the Skyway system. In a statement, they said flooding in the area is caused by on-going construction works outside of the Skyway system and that it is unrelated to their operations and outside their control.

Since February of this year, Skyway O&M Corporation has been in constant coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and other government and private sector stakeholders in the area to find a way to address the issue together.

They’ve gone so far to lend their equipment to help drain floodwater faster and deployed their maintenance teams to siphon off water from the carriageway. One of the stakeholders in the area is also currently working on the portion of the affected drainage system within their property, with the contractor committing to finish the outfall this month.
