Considering some US-based automotive news regarding the discontinuation of the CX-9 in favor of the CX-90, Mazda Philippines has released an official statement.
You can read the full statement below, but in gist, the announcement about the CX-9’s discontinuation is only relevant to the US market. For international markets, including the Philippines, the CX-9 will continue and will remain in the line-up for the foreseeable future.
In fact, Mazda Philippines is reminding people that the CX-9 underwent a fourth refresh in late 2022. That version gave it the turbocharged 7-seater SUV a larger infotainment screen (9.2-inches), dark brown nappa leather seats with diamond stitching, ventilated front seats, paddle shifters, and G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus).
What did happen is that Mazda Philippines discontinued the base CX-9 Touring 2WD. For 2023, the CX-9 has been trimmed down to a two-variant line-up: the CX-9 Black Edition 2WD (P 2,790,000), and the CX-9 AWD Exclusive (P 2,990,000).
The CX-9 will continue alongside the upcoming CX-90.
There has been some recent US auto news that Mazda USA plans to discontinue the CX-9. This news is only relevant to the US, where the new CX-90 has recently been introduced. For the Philippines markets and elsewhere, the CX9 continues to be produced in Japan.

It likewise features the latest in convenience features such as Wireless Apple CarPlay, Wireless Charging, and Auto Brake Hold, and offers the optimal balance of power – putting out up to 253 PS and 434 Nm of torque – and fuel-efficiency, courtesy of its award-winning 2.5L Skyactiv-G Turbo engine.
In the Philippines, the 2023 CX-9 will continue to be produced in Japan, and shares the showroom with the recently-introduced Mazda CX-60 HEV Turbo, along with the rest of Mazda’s premium crossover products – CX-3, CX-30 HEV, CX-5, and CX-8.
I would have thought the Touring gave them more sales. It was competitive compared with Santa Fe and Sorento and even against top-trim smaller crossovers and truck-based SUVs. I guess the "maangas" black edition is popular and/or profitable. It's the consumers' loss since they'll have to fork out 3 to 4 hundred K more if they really want a CX9.
