BYD announces that James Bond actor Daniel Craig is its newest brand ambassador. The partnership with Craig coincides with BYD’s Denza brand’s global push, particularly into Europe this year.
As the world’s first premium brand devoted solely to New Energy Vehicles, Denza is drawing customers by its unique blend of cutting-edge innovations and European-influenced design elegance. As the perfect partner for this process, Craig will appear alongside several key vehicles set to be launched this year, including in marketing materials and television commercials.
The partnership with Craig represents significant worldwide recognition for Denza, which is building up to its first European model launch, the Z9 GT, to be held on April 8 at the Palais Garnier opera house in Paris.
BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li commented, “Daniel Craig represents a powerful combination of strength, sophistication and authenticity. Those qualities resonate deeply with what Denza stands for. As we bring the brand to the world—across Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa—we are proud to welcome an actor whose presence and character reflect the spirit of Denza. Together, we want to show how technology, design and emotion can come together to create a new vision of premium mobility.”
Confirmed to arrive in the Philippines, the Z9 GT is the first global model to receive the Blade Battery 2.0. It offers ultra-quick charging times (20 to 97 percent in only 12 minutes) and achieves ranges of more than 1,000 kilometers.
In terms of performance, the Z9 GT has a tri-motor system with one motor powering the front and two motors powering the rear. The dual rear-motor setup not only improves road handling, but combined with rear wheel steering reduces its turning radius to just 4.6 meters—a feat considering the Z9 GT’s 5,235 mm length. It also can crab walk. The DiSus-A air body control system with dual chamber air suspension also means the Denza D9 GT can pass the “moose test” at 93.6 km/h, achieve stable braking even in tire burst scenarios, and even make idiots drift with precision.
The Z9 GT comes in both electric and plug-in hybrid flavors in its home market of China. When using the DM-i powertrain, it means pairing a 2.0-liter turbocharged generator (207 horsepower) with three electric motors for a combined 870 horsepower (0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds). On the other hand, for the BEV, the three electric motors outputs are upped to 965 horsepower (0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds).
