To recall, BMW Philippines has started offering the X1 xDrive25e M Sport just last month. It joins the X3 (read our review) and the X5 (read our review) in the German luxury brand’s growing PHEV line-up. Now, it looks like the same PHEV powertrain will also be offered in the 3 and 5 Series sedans as well.

Appearing in the Department of Energy’s recognized list of PHEVs are the BMW 330e and 530e.

Both the BMW 330e and the 530e combine the 2.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder (184 horsepower, 300 Nm) with an eDrive synchronous motor integrated into the 8-speed automatic. In the 330e, it makes 109 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque, while the 530e it makes 184 horsepower and 450 Nm. Overall, it makes for a combined 292 horsepower and 420 Nm in the 330e and 299 horsepower and 450 Nm in the 530e.

When launched, it will make the 330e and the 530e the most powerful 3 and 5 Series sedans, respectively outside of the M variants (the M340i was offered exclusively with a Touring body style, while the 5 Series was only offered in the 520i Hybrid variant).

With fuel prices high as they are, based on its global specs, these two new BMW models will be fuel misers. The BMW 330e can go up to 101 kilometers in pure electric mode thanks to a 19.5-kWh lithium-ion battery (94 kilometers in the 530e). With an 83.33 km/L combined WLTP fuel consumption figure, the 330e can theoretically go 3,000 kilometers before refueling (40-liter tank). On the other hand, the 530e’s 125 km/L and 60-liter tank means being able to stretch it to 7,500 kilometers.
