Hyundai Motor PH Is Recalling Palisade HEVs For Crushing Power Seats

Hyundai Motor Philippines has just issued a very important safety recall surrounding its new Palisade HEV model.

According to filings made with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), 123 MY2025 to MY2026 Palisade HEV Calligraphy SUVs are being recalled for a fix surrounding its second- and third-row power seats that can potentially crush occupants.

To fix the issue, Hyundai is updating the vehicle software to remove the one-touch function on the Palisade’s infotainment system. It will also require a “long press and hold function” to fold or unfold the powered second and third row seats.

This follows a harrowing incident in the United States wherein the Palisade, equipped with the aforementioned power folding seats, killed a two-year old child who was crushed to death in the second row.

Apart from the single fatality reported, Hyundai says at least a total of seven field claims related to the third row and 13 for the second row (with four injuries) were reported for the second row.

Elsewhere, Korean owners have cited an issue surrounding the Palisade’s one-touch tilt and slide function. Among the issues they reported include seats folding with excessive force, locking up on hitting an obstruction, and buttons even becoming unresponsive afterward.

Palisade HEV owners are encouraged to call the Hyundai Motor Philippines customer care hotline at +63 2 8868 8000 or +63 917 868 9000.
