MG Philippines just got the local nod to sell a new battery electric vehicle: the MG4 Urban. Set to join the line-up not as a replacement to the current MG4 which will be updated but as the brand’s most “accessible EV,” this compact EV hatchback is heading for a Philippine debut soon.
Measuring in at 4,395 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, and 1,551 mm in height, the MG4 Urban slots well within the C-segment category. Confirmed in its government filings, the MG4 Urban receives a single front-mounted, front-driven permanent magnet synchronous motor putting out 163 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. It also boasts of four driving modes and a single-pedal drive.
In terms of battery, it uses a Lithium-Iron Phosphate or LFP chemistry (sorry, no SolidCore Battery for now) with a capacity of 42.8 kWh. This should help it deliver 325 kilometers of range. It can also be charged up to 6.6 kW on an AC wall box (7.5 hours 20 to 100 percent) or 82 kW on a DC fast charger (35 minutes 20 to 80 percent). The MG4 Urban also possesses a 3.3 kWh Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature.
Confirmed exterior specifications include automatic LED headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels with aero covers, and 195/60R16 tires. Inside, it receives a 7-inch TFT digital display, a 12.8-inch central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, synthetic leather seats with manual adjustments, and a wireless device charger.
Of course, the exact timing for the MG4 Urban’s local debut is still kept under wraps, but the most obvious choice would be at the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) in June.
