McLaren Launches Its Own Golf Brand

McLaren is one of the most storied and revered automotive brands in the world. Known for their technical or “nerdy” approach, they apply clinical engineering to each car they build—whether it’s for the road or track.

As a brand, they’ve conquered multiple race disciplines—Le Mans, the Indy 500, and of course, Formula 1 where they are the most recent constructors and driver’s champions. Naturally, they’re thinking of diversifying their business, and in a move that no one saw coming, they just launched their own golf brand, McLaren Golf.

It’s normal for car manufacturers to create one-off merchandise for different sports not related to racing or cars, but McLaren has decided to go one step further by making actual golf equipment. According to them, McLaren Golf is a high-performance equipment brand that uses their engineering prowess to create golf clubs for recreational and professional use.

The brand is using high-tech manufacturing techniques like 3D printing, coupled with the usage of high-performance elements like carbon fiber, to optimize the performance of the golf clubs. It is also reported that some of the golf experts behind the project came from notable brands like Cobra, TaylorMade, and Titleist.

At the moment, McLaren Golf is only offering two types of irons: a more forgiving Cavity Back and a Bladed configuration for the more advanced players out there. In terms of pricing, initial reports indicate that the estimated price of the club heads will set you back $375 (P 23,000 per Club Head). In the future, we can imagine that golf bags, club head covers, and apparel would be part of the pipeline.

Currently, McLaren Golf launched with 2 key brand ambassadors, Michelle Wie West, a female golf major champion and brand investor, and Justin Rose, the beloved PGA Major Champion and Veteran. As a side note, McLaren CEO Zak Brown is an avid golfer, as is current team driver and F1 World Champion Lando Norris.

Of course, we wait to see if McLaren would build a car that can easily fit a full golf set—something its current line-up has difficulty doing.

  1. This is nothing new. Nissan has their own knife brand. Which car brand is next?.. probably one who will launch their own toothbrush brand.
