Round 3 of 2014 National Drag Racing Championship Southern Series Takes Place April 5

Expect even more thrilling on track action this coming April 5 as the 2014 National Drag Racing Championship returns to the Batangas Racing Circuit Drag Strip for Round 3 of the Southern Series.

Over 100 entries will once again vie to be the quickest on the drag strip. In addition to the competitors from Laguna, Cavite, Quezon, and the Bicol region, some will come from as far as Metro Manila and Tarlac just for this event. That's because they'll be racing for the titles in the PRO, Expert, Sportsman, Hotstreet, and Thunder Classes, with the eight fastest cars of the day slugging it out in the Quick 8.

All eyes will be on Jonathan Tiu and his JCT-Blanche Racing Nissan GT-R as he defends his title in the Quick 8 division. In the previous round last March, Tiu was able to post a fastest quarter-mile time of 9.429 seconds. He'll definitely be aiming to go even quicker and break the 8 second mark in BRC, but will face stiff competition from top guys such as Martin Manalo of RSL Motorsports, Allan Ararao of W-AutoSport, and JCT-Blanche teammate Rommel Dural.

These guys will then have to take on the challenge from the highly-contested PRO Class, where they'll face-off with the Manalo brothers, and the squad from H3 Autoworks and Vannitec. Of course, there's also the threat from the Southerners who are aiming to dominate on their home turf.

For competitors, registration fee is Php 2,700 per entry and includes insurance and an AAP day license. You may visit www.batangasracingcircuit.org for the full regulations. Meanwhile, entrance fee for spectators and guests is P50 per person.

Registration starts at 6:30 AM followed by the practice runs at 7:00 AM. The qualifiers will then start promptly at 9:00 AM and competition at 11:00 AM.

The 2014 National Drag Racing Championship is comprised of a four-round Northern and four-round Southern Series that is hosted at the Clark International Speedway (CIS) and Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC), respectively. It is sanctioned by the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP), presented by Petronas and sponsored by M&H Tires with media partner Racing Beat @ Wave 89.1.
