UPDATED: Chevrolet Philippines Updates Trailblazer for 2014, Introduces 6AT for 4x2 LT (w/ Specs)

UPDATE: We've included the Official Press Release after the break.

The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI), the exclusive Philippine distributor of Chevrolet vehicles has updated their Trailblazer with a slew of changes beginning with the introduction of a new variant: an automatic of its 4x2 LT model.

The 2014 Trailblazer receives minor tweaks to its engine that sees its power and torque rise for all variants. The base model, the Trailblazer 4x2 LT 6MT continues with its 2.5-liter Duramax diesel but now has 163 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque (up from 150 horsepower and 350 Nm).

Meanwhile, the 6AT models, available in both 4x2 and 4x4 models receive 200 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque (up from 180 horsepower and 470 Nm). These figures are particularly interesting since it now matches the Ford Ranger's 3.2-liter Duratorq in power and actually outperforms it in terms of torque. This makes the Trailblazer the most powerful SUV in its class.

While most features remain the same as the 2013 model, the Trailblazer 4x4 LTZ does receive the benefit of a new touchscreen multimedia system dubbed MyLink. The MyLink system features full audio-video capability as well as a full range of input options.

Prices for the 2014 Chevrolet Trailblazer are:
  • Trailblazer 4x2 LT 2.5 6MT - P 1,378,888.00
  • Trailblazer 4x2 LT 2.8 6AT - P 1,488,888.00
  • Trailblazer 4x4 LTZ 2.8 6AT - P 1,733,888.00

Trailblazer Sets New Benchmark with New Duramax Engine, 4x2 AT, and MyLink Infotainment

Chevrolet Philippines recently launched the 2014 Trailblazer SUV which comes with new and more powerful Duramax engines in addition to other improvements. Apart from a new powertrain, the new Trailblazer will also be equipped with Chevrolet's MyLink in-car infotainment system. These improvements further highlight the Trailblazer's 'Go Anywhere' concept and will raise the bar for SUV’s in the market.

First launched in 2012, the Trailblazer was Chevrolet's newest entry into the Philippine midsize SUV segment. Its rugged looks matched with a spacious cabin, class-leading engine and superior on and off-road driving dynamics helped the Trailblazer carve a sizeable niche in the market.

"The 2014 Trailblazer perfectly fits Chevrolet’s ‘Find New Roads’ brand promise," said Atty. Alberto Arcilla, President and Managing Director of Chevrolet Philippines. “Chevrolet always strives to look for ways to let the Filipino market enjoy an enhanced car ownership experience. The Trailblazer is an SUV that combines looks and utility by offering more space, seven-seater comfort, better performance, and the ability to explore smartphone features with its MyLink infotainment system.”

Finding New Roads with 4x2 and Automatic Transmission

“Trailblazer sales have been robust since it was launched in the fourth quarter of 2012. However, the demand for an automatic transmission in the 4x2 variant has been consistently high.” said Atty Arcilla. Cognizant that the 4x2 automatic variants account for 62% of the midsize SUV segment, Chevrolet Philippines announces the launch of the Trailblazer 4x2 automatic transmission variant. “Chevrolet is very happy that the Trailblazer 4x2 automatic is finally here. The wait is over.” added Atty. Arcilla.

A New Heart

The new Duramax engine has been made stronger to handle the increased outputs, and certain elements have been redesigned to enhance durability and further improve overall quality. Instead of increasing capacity to enhance performance, Chevrolet powertrain engineers focused on improving efficiency and performance within the same capacities.

With the new Duramax engine, the 2.8-liter Trailblazer now has 200Ps of power at 3,600 rpm and 500 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm, making the Trailblazer the most powerful in its class. Equivalent to 178 Nm-per-liter, the new engine will not only improve the Trailblazer's acceleration and straight-line performance, but also the vehicle's towing and payload capacity. Output for the 2.5L variant has also increased to 163Ps at 3,600 rpm. It now produces 380 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm.

The new Duramax 2.8-diesel engine has 11% more power, 6% more torque, while consuming 4.3% less fuel.* The new 2.5-liter Duramax diesel engine, on the other hand, has 8.6% more power, 9% more torque, while burning 5.17% less. Both the 2.8- and 2.5-liter variants are capable of a top speed of 180 km/h.

Included in the engine’s improvements are a higher pressure Commonrail system, a water-cooling system for the Variable Geometry Turbocharger**, a new Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve and the addition of an EGR cooler, an enhanced Intake Manifold, redesigned Cylinder Head and Block, a Balance Shaft Unit. GM’s powertrain engineers also developed a new Engine Control Module hardware and software for quicker response and added accuracy to keep the engine operating in peak form.

The Trailblazer’s 2.5-liter manual transmission variant will get a new six-speed transmission, an upgrade from the previous model’s five-speeds. The new six-speed automatic transmission features retuned ratios to take advantage of the new Duramax's characteristics, providing the Trailblazer with the best performance and fuel economy. The Trailblazer is the first in its segment to offer six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.

LTZ with MyLink & smartphone connectivity

The Trailblazer’s LTZ variant will have a MyLink infotainment system with all the appointed audio unit features and will include smartphone connectivity, pictures, videos and audio streaming. Once connected, options such as Audio, Pictures and Movies, Telephone, Smartphone Link and Settings are projected onto the Trailblazer's touch screen. Users can access personal playlists and make hands-free voice calls, amongst other functions.

Making the right upgrades

The new Trailblazer’s suspension and braking systems have been calibrated to match the additional power and torque from the engine. The use of four coil springs and a multi-link rear suspension system found in more up-market SUVs balances out the typical characteristics of conventional body-on-frame SUVs and results in a comfortable ride and passenger car-like handling dynamics. The Trailblazer is the first midsize SUV in its segment to offer disc brakes on all four wheels.

Active Safety

One of the primary concerns in developing the Trailblazer is the safety of all the occupants. It is because of this reason that Chevrolet included a host of active safety features in the SUV. Aside from the usual ABS and EBD tandem, the Trailblazer features Traction Control and Electronic Stability Control for traction loss, Hydraulic Brake Assist and Panic Brake Assist for emergency braking situations and Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control for negotiating steep terrain***.

Inside, the new Trailblazer continues to feature leading interior space and intuitive three-row tumble and fold-flat seating. The full seven-seater SUV also features ‘theatre-style seating’, allowing second and third-row occupants a better all-round view. Finally, its first-in-class cruise control function further enhances driving comfort. The Trailblazer SUV truly encompasses what most Filipinos want and need in an SUV – power, performance, capacity, refinement, versatility, toughness, durability, efficiency and comfort – all in a single package.

With all its additional features and upgrades, the Trailblazer is expected to exceed midsize SUV standards and offer the market a unique and impressive SUV alternative. The Chevrolet Trailblazer is covered by a 3-year or 100,000-kilometer warranty and a 2-year warranty extension for the Powertrain. Chevrolet also provides its new clients with free 3-year 24/7 Roadside assistance. By dialing 751 CHEV (2438) owners may avail of the following services: vehicle support, personal assistance and information service.

The Trailblazer is available in seven exterior colors: Summit White, Black Sapphire, Sizzle Red, Auburn Brown, Blue Mountain, Royal Gray and Switchblade Silver. Trailblazer variants and prices are as follows:

Trailblazer 2.8L 4x4 AT – 1,733,888.00 PHP
Trailblazer 2.8L 4x2 AT – 1,488,888.00 PHP
Trailblazer 2.5L 4x2 MT – 1,378,888.00 PHP

*Figures are results of tests by General Motors in Thailand. Individual results may vary due to driving habits and prevailing road conditions.
**Available in the 4x4 A/T and 4x2 A/T variants
***Available in the 4x4 A/T LTZ variant

    1. As exciting as the specs are for an armchair expert's perspective, the fact of the matter is that Toyota and Mitsubishi have years of brand equity under their belt. That is more than enough to trump 200 horsepower.

In fact, among all the MS/Fort owners that I know, only about 20% actually care about power. The 102 hp 2.5G Fort and the 134 hp GLX Montero has been more than enough for them.

      Delete
    2. what a brilliant comments......the fact you said the owners i knew dont care about power is tantamount to ,,,,you dont owned one.........how sad....

    3. Go home Kyoichi Sudo! If you're just going to bash the TB here and put the Montero on a pedestal again.

  3. buying a car without caring the specs especially the engine power is like marrying a woman without knowing her inside....do you think there were 80% of them as this crazy? damn....

  4. 1.488M 4x2AT, a bit on the high side for a bare unit (halogen vs hid, cloth vs leather seats, 16in vs 17in tyres, no roof rack, no parking sensors, vinyl vs leather-wrapped steering wheel, etc etc). A buyer/owner is basically paying for that 200ps/500nm engine, which will then be extensively used in crawling EDSA traffic...will it sell? Of course! Will it threaten the leadership of the usual suspects (montero/fort)? Nopes...

He is a known lover of everything Mitsubishi and a known hater of the Trailblazer. Based on his comments here, parehas na parehas sa mga comment niya in TGP. Go home hater, and buy and drive a Montero before hating the Trailblazer!

    2. hey mitsu guy...what's up with your fave car comp making crap cars?...take mirage for example...montero is also a crap...its nothing but a poser...and how can you understand what im trying to say (that montero is a crap) cuz you dont even own one...my brother in law had the biggest regret in his life when he chose montero over trailblazer (he used to drive hyundai snata fe owned by our parents)...(montero) 700kms after last service and engine sound, lag, noise and smoke considerably increased...imagine that after only 700kms from last service?...7000+ kms and he sold it...

    3. Well that's dumb... lol mitsu lover pala. Haha! Why dont u have a reality check and see how mitsu is doing in the world market. I repeat not just our small local market but globally. They're actually an ailing Japanese brand for Pete's sake! Japanese car sales have always been headed by their own Big 3 Toyota, Nissan, Honda (in order) world wide. I'm not a freakin Mitsu hater actually we have a trusty L3 and a CT9a but you better have a dose of reality and avoid being a fan boi. ;)

  5. I just picked up a silver 2.8L 4x2 6AT from Chevrolet Pampanga. I'm very impressed with the power and responsiveness of it's diesel engine. This is my first time driving a diesel powered vehicle. I didn't know what I was missing. The power makes passing on tight provincial roads a breeze. On the NLEX this thing really flies, very surprising for an suv. Sorry I don't have any experience with the Montero or Fortuner to make a comparison. I have an Escalade ESV back in the States, but obviously that is not a fair comparison.

  8. I own a TB bought last April and from then on, it goes to CASA for several occasions having the same problem on the front wheel. After 2 weeks of driving it it produced a freaking squeaking sound on both wheels and I have it checked and they were able to fix it the first time but unfortunately it went back after a couple of weeks. They replaced the shock and mounting and it runs well for quiet some time but then now it is currently again in the CASA for the same freaking problem. What's wrong with the TB's' front wheel?!!!!!!! Does anyone would like to comment on this. I know some owner of TB that has the same freaking problem.

    1. yes I have the 4x4 AT. as long as it is under warranty they will fix it for free. the problem is that once the warranty ends, who will suffer? got a new SA and mounting and it runs ok now which is the same when they first change it before. hopefully they really fix the problem. will see after a couple of weeks.

    3. Thanks to you both for the info. Mine is EDSA North and we got bad experience on their after sales services. Now they said a solution and advise has come from Thailand and spares are available. Hope it will do. Yes, we observed that sound in both wheels during braking, slowly little forward and reverse move..when the unit was not use for about 2 days or more. During cruise is not a problem, Most things goes well except that annoying squeaking sound.

      Delete
    4. From Anonymous Dec. 6, the squeaking sound always occur while you are driving from 20-60kph. Now, I can hear a slight squeaking sound on the right side of the wheel again (not a good sign as this eventually sound more irritating on the days to come). They've just change/fix it last Dec. 10 and here it is again. grrrrr...!!!!!!!!

Hi anonymous dec 6 and 10, i`d like to ask if chevrolet has given you any explanation as to what causes the squeking sound and do they charge you for anything (parts) when you bring back your unit to casa, although they are under warranty but there are really bad dealers whowill charge you something citing things like its not included in the warranty.
I`m planning to but a TB LTZ variant this April, since in paper it looks to be the best SUV in the market at this price range. hoping for more info from you, THANKS A LOT

    1. Any news on the squeaking problems? I'm replying to my own post here. Just need to make up my mind ASAP if I will just keep my Strada and just accesorize it or upgrade to an SUV or buy the Wildtrak 3.2 or just buy the Forester XT which is almost at the same price as the hi-spec TB.

TB is tempting but unless there is a good reason why the squeaking problems exists (with that price tag of 1.7M) then I'm not 100% sold to it. I've had my Strada for the past 4 years and the only problem I had with it were squeaking leaf springs which were easily resolved.

CHEVY what is that squeaking??? Please reply. Thanks!

  24. This is anonymous dec 10 which I stated in my previous but upon rechecking my first posting was actually Dec 9.... Anyways, that doesn't matter. My husband and I had our SA (mounting, coil spring, and rod) changed this January. Actually this is the 3rd time it was changed. The latest according to chevy team is the superseded or much improved parts. I am giving it 2 months and see if everything is smooth sailing from here on...
Another thought... guys check your aircon ventilation... it might need resealing (roof part)...

Hope this helps. I really love the power of our TB. Just keeping eye on things and see how it progresses... If something comes up again then it is back to the casa...

Need info on the rear suspension... any problems?

  36. From pangasinan I own new TB 4x4 Duramax, rans 1300 km. as stated on specification power / fuel consumption satisfied.
Only Comment is the front radiator grill the designed holes are to big its good
for cooling system but not for protecting the radiator core & condenser core A/C
specially if you are travelling at night. at your speed 100 km you gonna hit insects & bugs enters straight to the front grill direct hit to this cores
I experience this when I passed one night at TPLEX because this road is near farm areas.
Hoping chevy had aftermarket parts for this upgrade to put fine mesh back of the front grill.

If you go home to the province using kuliglig brand from trailblazer montero fortuner everest, and the rest of kuliglig out there, you will end up being zoomed ane zoomed because a diesel is powerless, gutless, and no stamina for long driving especially in climbing. But this fact is unknown to metro drivers who thinks when they go to the province, "sikat sila" not knowing promdis are driving "branded" and "real sports utility vehicle" not those kuliglig asia/africa utility vevicles of metro people. low maintenance cost
you goi the looks of modern technology and high end car very competitive

    disadvantages
    not yet available
dealers and staff of isuzu has very low standard and quality of service

    about the price
    mux low monthly amortization
    trailblazer high monthly amortization

    about the insurance
    mux lo cost
    traiblazer expensive

i think lt trailblazer is overpricing because of
    were paying for their warranty
    and for their engine
and because its luxury car and the brand name

mux is for all types of people
trailblazer is just trying to reach class a b c and d market

i dont believe any company will sell a car without quality mainly because they have competitions and they want their products to be the best they could be to be popular to be at the best rate its about money making marketing strategy and business happy buyers means a lot of income so i dont believe na mas maganda quality and safety ng trail kaysa sa mux the only difference is the engine and the service they give but its the same sa nkikita ko mas lamang p nga si isuzu sa tibay sa makena plang tumatagal tlga dekada

kasi kung panget ang ilalabas nila masisira sila at maari png mabankrupt sila just a thought

but please help me maybe i miss something about trail or mux im also confuse which one to buy since i hve a very good dealer of both mux and trailblazer choosing between the two

basta matipid sa maintenance doon ako pero kung hindi nmn ngkklau bkit hindi chevy na thnk you

  51. Any update regarding that squeaking sound? Planning to buy within the next 2 months. Currently torn between TB 2.5 MT and Montero GLS-V

  52. I got mine, TB 2.5 MT and so far so good. It's on 14,400kms. Bought March 2014. Traveled Manila - Vigan - Pagudpud 4 times already.

Some owners of it wrote "EAT MY DUST" on the car back, do the TB eat dust or they "EAT THEIR WORDS'?

    2. Last year at Roman Superhighway, from Balanga to Layac junction, a Toyota Fortuner just kept trailing behind my TB LT. Whenever it tries to overtake from left, I overtake from the right of the vehicle in front of me so as to give the 3.0L Fortuner a Head-to-Head race but he kept eating trailbazing dust. He must have no idea what power and acceleration a modern 2.8L Duramax under the SUVs bonet can deliver. ^_^

  55. Mga sir... newbie here ano ba maganda color Red, White or Silver?

  56. To Chevy Fan,

Depends sa personality mo actually, If you want more sporty looks then you go Red; If you want to look more professional then go with white or Black (if meron); If you're more like both " Sporty Professional" type then you'll never go wrong with Silver.

By the way, na solve na ba iyung issue about squeeks sa Front wheel? Baka lubricants lang kailangan dun like WD-40s? I'm planning of buying when I go back to philippines in June, iyung 4x2 lang dahil I don't see it using on offroads kaya 4x4 is not for me. I'm debating between this, fortuner, morano or starex :) - Jojo

  62. Hello mga bro! Im planning to replace my montero glsv with TB 4x2 a/t.. an acquaintance told me that TB are very stable on curves aside from being powerful and responsive.. im just thinking bit about after sales specially the squeeking sounds at the front as was discussed earlier here..if issues are tolerable with the 2014 or 2015 TB then i would go for it..

  63. I own a trailblazer, the problem is really with their PMS policy, they don't inform you that policy when you are inquiring about the unit, they only inform you after you have paid and picked up the unit, their PMS is very expensive and is done every 4 months whether your vehicle has run 1 KM or 5000 KM, it seems that they expect all Trailblazer owners to run 5000 KM every 4 months, their PMS is also bad towards the enviroment as they will put in synthetic oil which is good for 10000 KM,
but they won't follow that, they will force you to change oil every 4 months, so when you buy Trailblazer make sure that you have the budget for very expensive PMS charges during the warranty period.

    1. Just curious, what if you did your first pms after a year cos thats when you hit 5000 km mainly because the car doesnt get used? Will the warranty be void?

  64. So true! We shell out 7k every 4 mos per PMS for our 2.8 TB 4x2 AT LTX 2014. Service at Chevy Sta. Rosa is quite good so far... we transferred there because of our location. So far so good we have no problems with squeaking sounds but the steering wheel is quite rigid which is true to all TB, but I got used to it anyway. Performance and comfort is very good no question about that.We even did an 18km/L average drive from Baguio to Lipa, Batangas...mostly on highway driving. But still that's economical for a turbo engine. Very satisfied though for our 4x2 TB.

  65. Just sharing here, bought a 4x2 AT 2.8L TB last Nov. 2015; had a number of problems barely 2 weeks ... car pulls to the left side, off-centered steering wheel, popping sound in front suspension, steering wheel does not return to its center on its own, squeaking sound in the brake pedal. I felt like I am not driving a brand new car, very dissatisfied with the TB

    1. I do believe there are lemon cars as they call it. Your car is still under warranty, bring it back and have it fixed. Our TB is in good condition and running well. We bought it last year. I do have concerns especially when buying cars, what if it turns out a lemon car-- all brands have them. Hope yours get fixed with out major problems. Satisfied with our TB.

    2. Baka may inararo kang obstacle na nag cause ng misallignment? Squeking sound sa brake pedal might be due to panic brake activation. If you are first time sa car na may ABS manibago ka pero sa kalaunan matutunan mo rin yan.
