2016 Chevrolet Sail Docks at All Chevrolet Dealerships (w/ Brochure)

After wowing crowds at the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) last April, Chevrolet Philippines is now officially unveiling its newest contender in the sub-compact sedan segment: the all-new Chevrolet Sail. The Sail arrives packing smart and convenience features, dependable power, stylish design, and more.

Outside, the Sail shows off a composed design flaunting Chevrolet’s signature dual-port grille. It also sports sweptback headlights, a sculpted hood, and front fog lamps. Over at the side, it features sharp character lines that add to its bold design. The range-topping 1.5 LTZ gets a more aggressive tone by sitting on 16-inch gunmetal alloy wheels.

Seven exterior colors are available: Summit White, Black Meet Kettle, Bright White Solid, Peppy Orange Metallic, Galaxy Silver Metallic, Synacuse, and Blue Sky. Whatever the color, it receives a 107 high-standard painting and five anti-corrosion processes for exterior coating, with nine layers of anti-corrosion coating, for a long-lasting luster.

The Sail is also the first one in its class to come with a sunroof, allowing drivers to enjoy the fresh air when driving on the open road—perfect when on a long road trip. And speaking of long trips, the front MacPherson Struts and rear Torsion Beam Axle makes for a smooth and comfortable ride.

The Sail is available with two engines. The base 1.3-liter engine packs variable valve timing good for 100 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 127 Nm at 4,000 rpm. Meanwhile, the 1.5-liter gets dual variable valve timing upping the output to 109 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 141 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Both engines feature an integrated timing chain, more durable, stronger, and longer lasting than a typical timing belt. There are three variants available: the 1.3 MT LT, 1.5 AT LT, and 1.5 AT LTZ.

Inside, the Chevrolet Sail is practical and intuitive with its touchscreen infotainment system and 16 user-friendly storage compartments. The trunk is also generous at 366 liters. The touchscreen system, standard in the 1.5 AT LTZ provides seamless smartphone integration on its 9-inch color display with phone mirroring natural voice recognition and Bluetooth streaming audio. The same infotainment system has built-in applications such as Waze and Spotify. It also has Google Play Store for Android installed. The straight-forward and sporty interior is finished in Jet Black and come with power windows, a three-spoke steering wheel, a USB port, and a power outlet.

With a body made up to 5.7 percent PHS hot-rolled steel (tensile strength 1,300 Mpa), the Sail is strong and durable, yielding not just better cornering stability but better occupant safety. It comes standard with anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, driver and passenger airbags, and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

It also meets Chevrolet’s highest levels of quality (G0 global vehicle durability test). It underwent 48,000 kilometers or architecture tests, 350,000 kilometers of powertrain test, 640,000 kilometers of exhaust tests, and 2.8 million kilometers of simulated road tests. Backing this up, the Sail comes with a 5-year/100,000 kilometer warranty program. Owners are automatically enrolled in the 24/7 Chevrolet Emergency Roadside Support for 3 years, with an option to renew on the 4th year of ownership.

The 2016 Chevrolet Sail is priced as follows:
  • Chevrolet Sail 1.3L MT LT: PhP 688,888 for cash purchases
  • Chevrolet Sail 1.3L MT LT: PhP 713,888

    1. Best in its class on what category? Is it City car segment? Sub-compact segment? or Mini SUV/Subcompact Crossover? How does the yaris became 4th in place then the close rival jazz 6th and mazda2 in 9th? Is the yaris in terms of features like 4 speed gear box better than the Mazda 2's 6 Speed A/T? Is the 2 airbags of the yaris is better than the safety features of the jazz which has 6 airbags and stability assist?

    1. Isuzu won't buy out Mazda dummy, they will just have a partnership to build a new pickup truck.

    2. @autoactive lol anu ka ba, ford kaya nagpo-produce ng bt50 for mazda, since break na sila (ford&mazda), at bagong jowa ni mazda e si isuzu..si isuzu na magproduce ng next gen bt50, (depende pede nila ipaced out bt50 and go for a new name of truck)

    3. Parang toyota & mazda lang yan..

  6. And because isuzu cannot compete in the passenger car segment due to poor NVH and EPA ratings, it will just focus in the future on manufacturing delivery trucks!

  10. To those people who would like to purchase this car- im happy to report that its got a ZERO star crash rating in the latest latin NCAP crash test.

    1. Di lang naman airbags ang batayan ng crash worthiness. Malaking factor yung structural integrity. The crosswind has a stiff ladder frame compared to a monocoque sail.

    2. Wtf does ladder frame have to do with crash rating? Modern cars have crumple zones. I doubt if the crosswind even has one.
