Toyota Motor Philippines Refreshes Wigo for 2017 (w/ Specs)

Toyota’s Easy to Own, Easy to Drive Wigo sub-compact hatchback gets a refresh this 2017. Having sold over 40,000 units since its market introduction in 2014, the Wigo has cemented itself as the segment’s best-seller. But true to the Japanese carmaker’s spirit of “ever-better cars”, the most affordable model in the Toyota family brings in cosmetic and mechanical changes this year.

It starts with what’s under the hood. For 2017, the Toyota Wigo adds Variable Valve Timing Intelligence or VVT-i. The Wigo’s engine outputs may remain roughly the same as before: 66 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 89 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm, but the new 1KR-VE promises better fuel economy and refinement. This 3-cylinder engine is mated to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic depending on the variant. Together with this new engine, the 2017 Wigo also receives an improved suspension featuring a new geometry for a smoother, more relaxing drive.

Signaling the Wigo’s new and improved drivetrain, it gets a massively re-done exterior with new bumpers, grille, and alloy wheels. All 2017 models also get projector-type headlights with line guides and LED rear combination lamps. The highest grade G variant also nets mirror-integrated signal lamps.

Inside, the 2017 Wigo receives a redesigned interior with new door trims and seat patterns. Additionally, the touchscreen infotainment system has been refreshed with the G variant getting the added convenience of steering wheel switches.

There are also no compromises to safety as all Wigo models come equipped with dual SRS airbags and anti-lock brakes. Likewise, a seatbelt reminder and light remind warning have been made standard as well.

In terms of colors, the 2017 Wigo continues with the Silver Mica Metallic, Gray Metallic, White, Black, and Red. This is joined by the newest shade, Orange Metallic.

The new 2017 Wigo is now available at all Toyota dealerships nationwide with the following retail prices: P 526,000 for the 1.0E M/T; P 564,000 for the 1.0G M/T; and P 599,000 for the 1.0G A/T.

  3. It's good that safety features are consistent across all grades.

Good idea on the VVT-I, ditching the lap belts for the 3pt harness, even the E model gets allow wheels.

Toyota finally felt the competition and shaped up.

    1. It got a pretty good score as ASEAN NCAP naman.

Actually, kaya 'lata' yung dating ngayon ng modern cars in general kasi energy absorbing sila.

    1. I think it's still imported from Indonesia.

For about the same price as the G MT you can get a GLX MT Mirage. You get roughly the same features, except for a bigger engine and a nicer-looking interior.

And yes - support the CARS Program.

    1. What can you expect from A-segment budget cars? But its true that Picanto is the best looker among them and is good enough to be sold and is considered to be one of the most reliable cars in Europe.
