If This Isn't a Sportscar, What Is? Manila Sports Car Club Releases 2017 List of Eligible Cars

What is a sportscar? While the term is now being used by everyone from journalists to enthusiasts to describe everything from an Mazda MX-5 to a Ford Mustang to a Honda Civic Type R even, the folks at the Manila Sports Car Club has a very specific list.

A non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of sportscars, the highly discerning MSCC has released its official 2017 list of what they term to be “sportscars.” This is the barest minimum to gain probationary entry into the organization (other requirements include an approval from their Board of Directors and a presentation of a sportscar in good or in course of earnest restoration).

Their complete list can be scrolled through below, but at a glance, MSCC seems to classify a sportscar as something with two doors with typically a two-seater configuration. There are some 2+2s in the list, but they are mostly the exception. MSCC’s sportscar list doesn’t seem to mind the driven wheels (there are some FWD and AWD among the mostly RWD) or does it discriminate whether it has a fixed or convertible top.

Some notable cars not classified as sportscars include: the BMW M3/M4, American muscle cars such as the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, and the Dodge Charger. The list also omits new-age pocket rockets such as the Subaru WRX STI and Honda Civic Type R or even the CR-Z.

  4. Where is the ultra super sporty mazda3 with its premium interior and fun to drive characteristic? The guys who made this list are clueless. The mazda3 is the ultimate definition of a sportscar... Owners are said to have a sense of pride when driving one... Mclaren??? Pfft please... The mazda3 is the best in terms of fearures and pricing and nothing but good things are said by reviewers. If you don't like the mazda3, you are an idiot...
